‘Breaking Bad’ Creator Reveals Cryptic First Look at New Series ‘Wycaro’
Vince Gilligan, the mind behind Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, is back with something new, and it’s already got people guessing. His upcoming show Wycaro just dropped its first teaser on social media, and it’s definitely not what fans expected.
The teaser came from the official Breaking Bad account, which posted for the first time in almost a year. It showed a cotton swab forming a smiley face along with the words “happiness is contagious.” At first, fans thought it was hinting at another Breaking Bad spinoff. But Apple confirmed the image is actually from Wycaro 339, the upcoming Apple TV+ series.

There’s also a live YouTube countdown ticking down to Friday, July 25, when we’ll likely get a full trailer or more info.
This new show is being described as a mix of The X-Files and The Twilight Zone, and it brings Gilligan back together with Better Call Saul star Rhea Seehorn. While it’s also set in Albuquerque, Wycaro won’t be dealing with drug lords or criminal empires.
“There’s no crime, and no methamphetamine,” Gilligan said, as quoted by Deadline. He explained that the story takes a big turn right in the first episode. “The world changes very abruptly in the first episode, and then it is quite different,” he said. “And the consequences that that reaps hopefully provide drama for many, many episodes after that.”
The show is a sci-fi series, but it won’t feel like something out of space. According to Gilligan, Wycaro is set in our world, just with a twist. He said the series will focus on people and what they go through when the world around them suddenly changes.
Back in 2022, when the show was still untitled, Gilligan told fans not to expect anything like Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul. “It could not be more different,” he said at the time.
Gilligan’s experience writing for The X-Files years ago definitely seems to be showing through here. Sources describe Wycaro as a story about “bending reality while holding a mirror to humanity.” It won’t be a typical morality tale but will have drama, mystery, and even humor.
The show has already been picked up for two seasons straight-to-series by Apple TV+, with Sony Pictures Television also involved in production. Rhea Seehorn is set to star, and the premiere is expected later this year.
If the teaser is anything to go by, Wycaro is going to be weird, thoughtful, and maybe a little unsettling, in the best way.
