Pedro Pascal on Whether Reed Will Be the Leader of Avengers in ‘Doomsday’
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting pretty complicated right now. There are multiple realities and different Avengers teams. One team, which will presumably be gathered off-screen, is led by Sam Wilson as Captain America, and another is led by Bucky, following the release of Thunderbolts*.
Recently, the Fantastic Four joined the MCU, with Reed Richards played by Pedro Pascal. While his character is shown as flawed in the movie, he still proved to be a strong and capable leader for his team.
Things are about to get even more tangled with Avengers: Doomsday on the way. The movie will likely bring together more realities and introduce the original X-Men from Fox’s universe.
Fans were excited when Matt Shakman, the director of Fantastic Four, hinted in a recent interview that Reed Richards might become the new leader of the Avengers. Shakman said that Reed’s role was the hardest to cast because the character transforms from a nerdy scientist to a loving husband and father, and eventually to the guy leading the Avengers.
He said, “I realized that the version we were building had to have all of those elements.”
But Pedro Pascal cleared up those rumors in an interview with the Associated Press. He said that leading the Avengers isn’t currently part of his character’s future. Pascal explained, “It’s big news to me, that’s for one. I think Matt Shakman was doing an interview and when he was speaking about Reed… there is something that happens in the comics where he is sort of drawn in by the Avengers family and asked to be put into a leadership position. That is something that happens in the comics. It isn’t necessarily something that my character’s future entails.”
He added honestly, “I am being honest in that. I am not even trying to avoid spoilers. It’s a little bit of a mislead.”

So, for now, Pascal’s Reed Richards isn’t the new Avengers leader. But with the MCU’s stories always changing and expanding, who knows what could happen next?
