Nick and Judy in Therapy? New ‘Zootopia 2’ Trailer Teases Trouble, Snakes, and Surprises
The new trailer for Zootopia 2 just dropped, and it looks like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde aren’t exactly living the dream. The bunny and fox are back, but not everything is sunshine and teamwork. In fact, they’re in couples therapy. Well, kind of.
As shown in the teaser released by Walt Disney Animation Studios, Judy and Nick have been working as official police partners for just a week. But already, their clashing personalities are causing problems, so much so that Chief Bogo, voiced again by Idris Elba, sends them to therapy. The sessions are led by a therapist named Dr. Fuzzby, played by Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson.
Judy, voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin, seems frustrated but hopeful in the trailer, while Nick (Jason Bateman) stays his usual sarcastic self. The therapy isn’t optional, either. Chief Bogo makes it clear they need to fix their issues fast, or he’s splitting them up.
The pressure ramps up when a strange new case lands on their desks — a snake has shown up in Zootopia. Nick is instantly suspicious. “No snake has set foot in Zootopia in forever,” he says in the footage. The snake, named Gary De’Snake and voiced by Ke Huy Quan, claims he’s just trying to help his family. Whether or not he’s telling the truth is something Judy and Nick will have to figure out, together, if they can.
The movie, set to hit theaters on November 26, 2025, brings back fan favorites like Clawhauser, Gazelle, and Mr. Big, along with new faces like a beaver named Nibbles (voiced by Fortune Feimster), a goat cop named Bushron (Jean Reno), and even more wild residents of Zootopia. Shakira also returns as Gazelle and is working on a new song for the movie.
According to Disney’s official synopsis, “Judy and Nick find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down. To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town.”
The film is written and directed by Jared Bush, who also worked on the first Zootopia, and co-directed by Byron Howard. Yvett Merino is producing, and Michael Giacchino is back to score the film. Jared Bush also recently stepped in as the new chief creative officer of Disney Animation.
The idea for a sequel has been around since 2016, but Disney officially confirmed it was in the works during a 2023 earnings call, when CEO Bob Iger revealed the project was moving forward. Since then, cast updates and footage have been revealed at events like D23 and CinemaCon.
Goodwin once said she wanted to see Nick take the lead this time around, telling CinemaBlend, “I would like to see Nick have to be the one to convince Judy that the world is worth fighting for.” Bateman added, “The two of us, kicking butts out there. Cleaning up the streets. We’re a couple of new cops out there. So, bad guys, be warned.”
If the trailer is any sign, Zootopia 2 will mix the mystery, humor, and heart of the original — with even more chaos. Therapy sessions, snake suspects, and a possible breakup of the city’s favorite duo? Fans better buckle up.
