‘South Park’ Leaving HBO Max for Paramount+ β Watch Before Itβs Gone
South Park is packing its bags and leaving HBO Max next week. The animated comedy, created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, has been a staple on the service since it launched in May 2020. But according to a notice posted on HBO Max, the show will be gone after August 5, 2025.
The move comes after Parker and Stone made a massive deal with Paramount Global that gives Paramount+ the exclusive streaming rights to the long-running series.
The deal is said to be worth around $300 million a year, adding up to about $1.5 billion in total. As part of the agreement, Parker and Stoneβs Park County production company will deliver 50 new episodes of South Park. All 26 past seasons will also be available on Paramount+ for the first time.
In the new setup, South Park episodes will still air first on Comedy Central. But the day after, theyβll go straight to Paramount+. This gives Paramount full control over where fans can watch every episode, old or new.
South Park first joined HBO Max when WarnerMedia paid more than $500 million for a multiyear deal to stream the series. It was one of the serviceβs early selling points when it launched. But streaming rights deals often shift, and now itβs Paramount+ that has the lock on all things South Park.
The franchise has grown far beyond the TV show. There are video games, music videos, short films, and several TV specials and movies made exclusively for Paramount+. It even has a hit theatrical film, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, which came out in 1999 and earned both critical praise and an Oscar nomination.
Over the years, South Park has collected plenty of awards, including five Primetime Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award. TV Guide once ranked it the tenth greatest TV cartoon of all time. Its mix of crude humor, sharp satire, and bizarre storylines has kept it popular for nearly three decades.
For fans who watch on HBO Max, the clock is ticking. After August 5, youβll have to switch to Paramount+ to keep up with Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny. And with at least 50 more episodes on the way, the world of South Park is only getting bigger.
