Morena Baccarin Takes Charge in High-Stakes ‘Sheriff Country’ Trailer
CBS has dropped the first trailer for Sheriff Country, the upcoming Fire Country spinoff starring Morena Baccarin, and it’s giving fans their first real look at what’s coming. The show puts Baccarin front and center as Mickey Fox, Edgewater County’s new sheriff, who’s determined to bring some order to her hometown, even if it means stirring up trouble along the way.
The trailer opens with Mickey responding to what appears to be some kind of emergency, before shifting to small-town drama and dangerous secrets.
Fans who watched Fire Country will remember Mickey’s earlier appearance in season 2 during the backdoor pilot episode “Alert the Sheriff.” In that episode, she clashed with her estranged sister Sharon, played by Diane Farr, and even arrested her teenage nephew Bode. That tension hasn’t gone anywhere. In the trailer, Sharon calls her “Edgewater’s finest,” but it’s clear that the past still lingers.
Sheriff Country looks like it’s taking a different approach compared to Fire Country. While the original series often focused on large-scale emergencies, this one seems more grounded, dealing with personal conflicts, local crimes, and complicated family ties.
In addition to handling murder cases and town politics, Mickey also has to deal with her father, a former convict who runs a marijuana farm, and the fallout from her own daughter’s addiction struggles.
In an interview with Us Weekly, which premiered the trailer, Michele Weaver, who plays Mickey’s deputy Cassidy, explained how this show will stand apart. “It’s not as catastrophic necessarily. It’s more about people issues,” she said. “What’s really exciting is seeing the dynamic between the citizens of the city that we already know and love — in a new way.”
Production on Sheriff Country began in May 2025 in the Toronto area, instead of Vancouver where Fire Country is filmed. According to Variety, the change was made so Baccarin could be closer to her family in New York. CBS confirmed in March 2025 that the series would premiere in fall 2025, and the first episode will air October 17. After the premiere, it will settle into a Friday night slot before Fire Country.
The cast includes Matt Lauria, Christopher Gorham, Michele Weaver, and W. Earl Brown, with Diane Farr returning as Sharon. There’s also the possibility of guest appearances from other Fire Country characters as the season goes on.
Sheriff Country has been in the works since January 2024, when the spin-off was first reported. CBS gave it a straight-to-series order in May 2024, after the success of the backdoor pilot episode. It’s the first official spinoff of Fire Country, though it’s been reported that another possible spinoff starring Jared Padalecki is also being discussed.
With drama, crime, and plenty of personal stakes, Sheriff Country is set to bring a different kind of fire to Edgewater when it premieres this fall.
