PS6 Leak Hints at a Launch Window Nobody Saw Coming
The PS6 might be closer than you think, according to a recent report. Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will turn five this November. Usually, that means a console generation is more than halfway done. The last two generations lasted about seven to eight years before a new console arrived.
This time, things got a bit messy because of COVID. Supply problems made the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S harder to get, so the generation didn’t really take off until around 2022. In some ways, the generation started late.
But now, it looks like the next generation is coming soon. Xbox has already started talking about its next console, and PlayStation has mentioned that the PS6 is in development. So, when can we expect it?
A new report from Moore’s Law Is Dead, shared through Kotaku, says the PS6 could arrive in the fall of 2027 or early 2028. This info comes from an old AMD document reviewed by the YouTuber behind Moore’s Law Is Dead.
Sony usually launches new consoles in the fall, often in November, and this document says Sony plans to start making the PS6 in early to mid-2027 to have enough stock ready for the holiday season.
Even though the information comes from a dated AMD presentation, the YouTuber pointed out that someone close to Sony said the company usually sticks closely to the details in these documents.
This suggests the next generation could start in just about two years, even though many still think the PS5 has a lot of life left. Some people wonder why Sony would rush the PS6 when the PS5 is still performing well.
The YouTuber also mentioned that the PS6 won’t be a huge jump from the PS5 Pro. It seems Sony wants to keep the new console’s power increase small to keep costs down. The goal is to keep the price around $500, making it affordable for most players. But how big the leap will be in real terms remains to be seen.
