‘Alien: Earth’ Debuts With Outstanding Rotten Tomatoes Score — Is Dubbed “The Ultimate Sci-Fi Series for Alien Fans”
Alien: Earth is an upcoming sci-fi horror TV show created by Noah Hawley, based on the famous Alien movie series. The story takes place two years before the original 1979 Alien film. The show stars Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, and Adarsh Gourav. It will premiere on FX and FX on Hulu on August 12, 2025.
The plot centers on a spaceship called Maginot that crash-lands on Earth. A young woman teams up with a group of tactical soldiers, and together they face a terrifying new threat to the planet. Now that reviews have started coming out, it’s clear that many critics are really impressed with the show.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Alien: Earth has a strong 91% approval rating based on 34 reviews. While this score might change as more opinions come in, it already shows that the show is off to a great start.

Critics say the series refreshes the classic Alien story in fun ways, adding new twists that make it feel fresh without losing what made the original great. Many feel it’s the best Alien story since the famous sequel Aliens by James Cameron. The show combines thrilling moments, interesting characters, and a rich, detailed look that pulls you into its world. The cinematography and production design have been praised, and the scary scenes are balanced with moments that give a little relief from the tension.
Plenty of elements of this show are fun revisions on a classic, but Wendy’s story is enough to make you wonder if science fiction will ever get a new gimmick.

Hawley has done it again, delivering an Alien show that’s scary, fun, and thoughtful — often all at once.

Alien: Earth is the ultimate sci-fi series for fans of Alien. The series feels as if it perfectly embodies all the best parts of the original film, while still embracing and expounding on new concepts to make the franchise feel fresh and new.

The result is an imperfect series, but arguably the franchise’s strongest outing since James Cameron’s Aliens. Seriously — at its best, it really is that good.

As Noah Hawley successfully proves with Alien: Earth, this universe works best when all of its possibilities are rolled into one captivating, thrilling, and heady experience.

However, not all reviews are positive. Some critics feel the show takes too long to get going and that the story feels slow over the eight episodes. A few say the characters aren’t very clear or developed, which makes the show harder to connect with.
Others mention that some big ideas about transhumanism, or humans changing with technology, don’t get explored deeply enough and instead, the series focuses more on graphic action scenes.
Unfortunately, “Alien: Earth” gets the balance wrong. The prequel series, set two years before the events of the first “Alien,” spends too long setting up a story that only barely gets going by the time the eight-episode season comes to an end.

Characters are frustratingly opaque to the point that Alien: Earth more frequently recalls Hawley’s failed directorial effort, Lucy in the Sky. And its lofty ideas about transhumanism are abandoned in favor of a few more (admittedly incredible) massacres.

Overall, while opinions vary, most reviews suggest Alien: Earth is a strong, exciting addition to the Alien franchise. The series aims to please both longtime fans and newcomers by mixing classic elements with new ideas.
