Chris Hemsworth recently stirred up Marvel fans with a social media post that many thought was a goodbye to Thor. The actor shared a heartfelt video originally released by Marvel in 2022 to celebrate his years as the God of Thunder. But this time, Hemsworth added his own emotional message.

“Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. For the last 15 years I’ve held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly special… was sharing it with all of you. Your passion, your cheers, and your love for this character have meant everything to me. Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable.. Next up, Doomsday!” he wrote.

The touching words immediately sparked rumors online. Many fans assumed it meant Hemsworth was preparing to hang up the hammer after the next Avengers movies. So far, we know he will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, set for release on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.

Beyond those projects, Marvel hasn’t made any public announcements about Thor’s future. However, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has previously suggested Hemsworth is still in his prime to keep playing the character.

Now, Hemsworth has addressed the speculation himself, saying the whole “farewell” theory was blown out of proportion. Speaking to the press, he explained: “I had a few people ask me about it, and someone on my team said, ‘Ugh, we’ve given the wrong impression here.’ We didn’t do any [damage control]; there was no damage control necessary. But a lot was read into a little. I was [already] off starting another chapter of this character, and this journey has been the biggest part of my career. So [the video] was a moment of gratitude, and it wasn’t anything else. But it definitely got misconstrued and perceived in a different way.”

So, it turns out the post was simply Hemsworth reflecting on his time as Thor so far, not saying goodbye. And with Doomsday on the horizon, it looks like he’s not going anywhere just yet.

There’s even more for fans to get excited about. Tom Hiddleston’s Loki will be back alongside Thor in Doomsday, marking a long-awaited reunion between the two fan-favorite characters.

For now, fans can relax knowing Chris Hemsworth is still very much part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we’ll be seeing more of him wielding the hammer in the years ahead.
