Trailer for ‘HIM’ Drops, Showing Marlon Wayans as a Dark Football Legend in Jordan Peele’s New Horror
The trailer for HIM, an upcoming sports horror movie, has just been released, giving fans their first look at what to expect. Directed by Justin Tipping and produced by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, the film stars Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers in lead roles. Universal Pictures will bring HIM to theaters on September 19, 2025.
The story follows Cameron Cade, played by Tyriq Withers, a promising young football player who gets invited to train at a remote compound owned by Isaiah White, a famous quarterback nearing retirement, played by Marlon Wayans. What starts as a dream opportunity quickly turns into a terrifying experience. Isaiah pushes Cameron on a dark path filled with obsession, power, and the high price of success.

Director Justin Tipping said that the movie begins feeling like a typical sports drama but then changes completely. “My instinct was to set it up in a way that it feels like we’re in Friday Night Lights, or a Gatorade or Nike ad,” he said. “We’re rooting for the kid who just needs to unlock one thing to take it to the next level. And then we subvert the expectations and let it become Nosferatu or Ex Machina.”
Tipping said this switch from sports to horror gave him a lot of creative freedom. He compared the film’s vibe to psychological horror classics like Jacob’s Ladder. “Once I started leaning into some of my favourite horror… the creative floodgates just opened,” he added.
Jordan Peele, whose Monkeypaw Productions is behind the film, shared that HIM fits perfectly with their goal of making bold, original movies. “At Monkeypaw, we love ideas that shouldn’t be made and that we’re not supposed to touch,” Peele explained. “And the combination of sports and horror was something I had never quite seen. It was just clear that we had a genre mash-up that was right up my alley.”
The movie came from a script originally called Goat, written by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie. The screenplay made the 2022 Black List, highlighting the best scripts that hadn’t been produced yet. Universal Pictures picked it up soon after, and Tipping came on board to direct in early 2024. The cast also includes Julia Fox as Isaiah’s wife Elsie, along with Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies, Naomi Grossman, and others.
With the new trailer out, audiences can expect a mix of intense sports drama and unsettling horror when HIM hits theaters in September this year.
