Gina Carano and Disney Call a Truce After ‘Mandalorian’ Firing: “Ms. Carano Was Always Well Respected By Her Directors”
Gina Carano and Disney have ended their long legal fight and are ready to move on. The actress, best known for playing Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, has reached a settlement with Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company.
The news was first reported by Variety, which shared a statement from a Lucasfilm spokesperson. In the statement, they said, “The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”
Carano’s time on The Mandalorian came to a sudden end in 2021. She was fired after posting a message on social media that compared being a Republican to being Jewish during the Holocaust. The post caused a major backlash online, and Lucasfilm quickly announced she would no longer be involved with the Star Wars show.
In 2024, Carano decided to take legal action. She filed a lawsuit in federal court in California, accusing the company of wrongful termination and discrimination. She also asked the court to order Lucasfilm to bring her character back to the series and to pay her at least $75,000 in damages. Elon Musk reportedly financed the lawsuit something that Carano herself confirmed.
The details of the settlement have not been made public, so no one knows exactly what was agreed to. It is also unclear if Carano will return to The Mandalorian or appear in any future Lucasfilm or Disney projects. But based on the company’s statement, it seems they are open to the idea of working together again someday.
For now, the long-running dispute is over, and both sides appear ready to turn the page. Carano’s supporters are already speculating about whether she might get another shot at Star Wars, while others are simply glad the drama has come to an end.
