Star Wars Icon Returns Confirms Return in ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2
Season one of Ahsoka was a hit, so it came as no surprise when Lucasfilm quickly confirmed it would return for a second season. According to announcements made in January 2024, Dave Filoni is back as showrunner and is already deep into developing the new chapter of the story.
The series is set in the Star Wars universe during the same period as The Mandalorian and takes place after Return of the Jedi. This time, Ahsoka Tano and her apprentice Sabine Wren are stranded in another galaxy. Meanwhile, Grand Admiral Thrawn is rallying the scattered Imperial forces to challenge the New Republic.
Season two is being produced by Lucasfilm and Golem Creations, with Rosario Dawson returning as Ahsoka. The cast also features Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Ivanna Sakhno, Eman Esfandi, Hayden Christensen, and Rory McCann.
After the passing of Ray Stevenson in 2023, McCann stepped into the role of Baylan Skoll. Filming began in April 2025 in the United Kingdom, and the season is planned to include eight episodes streaming on Disney+.
The biggest buzz came during Fan Expo in Boston when Ewan McGregor confirmed he would reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the new season. This news quickly caught the attention of Star Wars fans, adding to the growing anticipation.

Hayden Christensen, known for playing Anakin Skywalker, also hinted at his involvement, saying, “One hundred percent… I would love to, yes. If the powers that be decide that’s something that they want to see, I would be there in a heartbeat.”

While Christensen’s comment made headlines, his return had already been reported by reliable outlets. Sources also say Anakin will have a much larger presence this time around. That detail has sparked debates among fans, since Anakin is dead in the current timeline. Some are eager to see how the show explains his return, while others worry it might undo some of Ahsoka’s emotional growth from season one.
One fan theory suggests that Anakin could come back as one of the Mortis gods, powerful Force beings first introduced in The Clone Wars. The season one finale set the stage for this idea. Ahsoka and Sabine were left stranded in a new galaxy, Thrawn and Ezra Bridger made their way back to the original Star Wars galaxy, and Baylan Skoll discovered massive statues of the Mortis gods.
The last scene showed Anakin appearing as a Force ghost, watching over Ahsoka and Sabine, creating a striking image of three Jedi generations—Anakin, Ahsoka, and Sabine—linked together.
With both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker playing bigger roles, season two promises to expand the story while exploring new mysteries and dangers. Fans are eager to see how these characters will shape Ahsoka’s path going forward.
