Marvel is getting ready to bring fans a bloody, action-packed ride with its upcoming animated series Marvel Zombies. The show will hit Disney+ on October 3, 2025, and it’s going to continue the story from the popular What If…? episode “What If… Zombies?!” from 2021.

This new series comes from creator Zeb Wells and is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s also being made by Marvel Studios Animation, with Bryan Andrews running the show as both director and showrunner.

Wells is the head writer, and the animation is being handled by Stellar Creative Lab, the same studio that worked on What If…?. The style will match the cel-shaded look fans know, using “2.5D” animation where 3D models are lit to look like 2D drawings.

The story takes place in an alternate Marvel timeline, one overrun by a zombie virus. Former heroes and villains have been infected, and the few survivors left must fight to stay alive.

If you saw What If…?, you already know Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, is one of the deadliest characters in this twisted world. In Marvel Zombies, she’s going to be even more dangerous, according to new reports from Nexus Point News.

In this series, Wanda will be called the Dead Queen, leading hordes of undead with her chaos magic and insatiable hunger. She already proved she could go toe-to-toe with anyone when she survived a battle with the Hulk, and yes, the Hulk will also appear in the show. Okoye, the Wakandan warrior, will serve as a secondary villain, leading an undead army under the Dead Queen’s command.

Nexus Point News also reports that other zombie versions of Ghost, Hawkeye, Abomination, Captain Marvel, and Captain America are confirmed to appear. That’s a lot of infected muscle for our heroes to face. But it’s not all bad news for the living, there will still be survivors putting up a fight.

The series will also feature some big surprises. According to Nexus Point News, fans can expect appearances from John Walker, Baron Zemo, Namor, Melina Vostokoff, Thor, Valkyrie, and Black Panther. The twist? We don’t know who will be on the side of the living and who will join the undead ranks. That’s something viewers will have to discover when the show airs.

Also confirmed are the return of Scott Lang’s talking head from What If…?, Spider-Man, Thanos, and Blade Knight. They’ll be joined by Riri Williams, Kate Bishop, and Kamala Khan, who will fight alongside each other as close friends in this chaotic world.

With all these familiar faces, some fighting for humanity, others fighting to eat it, Marvel Zombies is shaping up to be a wild and violent ride. Fans of the original What If…? episode can expect even more action, more gore, and more over-the-top battles between Marvel’s biggest names, only this time, many of them will be hungry for flesh.

Disney+ viewers won’t have to wait much longer to see how this nightmare unfolds. October 3, 2025, is when the undead take over the MCU.
