[Trailer] Timothée Chalamet Serves Up Charm and Ping Pong in A24’s ‘Marty Supreme’
The first trailer for Josh Safdie’s upcoming film Marty Supreme is out, and it shows Timothée Chalamet as Marty Mauser, a young man with big ping pong dreams in the 1950s.
According to the synopsis, “A young man with a dream no one respects goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness.” The movie is a sports adventure comedy-drama, directed by Safdie, who co-wrote the script with Ronald Bronstein.
Timothée Chalamet stars as Marty Mauser and also co-produces the film. The cast includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher, who plays Marty’s mother, Mrs. Mauser.
Other notable names involved are Penn Jillette, Sandra Bernhard, Spenser Granese, and French highwire artist Philippe Petit. Marty Supreme is set to release in the United States and Canada on December 25, 2025, through A24.

The movie’s background and development started making headlines in December 2023, when Chalamet mentioned in an interview that his next project involved ping pong.
By July 2024, reports confirmed that the film would be Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Safdie, marking his first solo directing project since 2008’s The Pleasure of Being Robbed. While the film draws inspiration from professional table tennis player Marty Reisman, sources close to the production said that the story is a fictionalized original rather than a strict biopic.
Chalamet trained for months for the ping pong scenes, guided by former professional players Diego Schaaf and Wei Wang. He even performed some of his own stunts, encouraged by Safdie.
The director also made Chalamet wear prescription glasses with contacts underneath to make his eyes look smaller, temporarily affecting his vision. Khondji noted that around 140 non-actors appear in the film, including Philippe Petit.
Fans can watch the trailer now and get a first look at the film’s 1950s world. Marty Supreme promises a mix of sports, humor, and adventure, all anchored by Chalamet’s charm and dedication.
