King of the Hill has been off the air for years, but it’s still making serious money for Hulu. Since early 2020, it has earned nearly $100 million in estimated streaming revenue, according to Parrot Analytics’ Streaming Economics data.

That amount puts it in the same league as shows like “American Dad!,” which still airs new episodes. By comparison, Mike Judge’s earlier creation, “Beavis and Butt-Head,” including its reboot, has made just over $50 million for Paramount+ since 2020.

For Hulu, these numbers explain why they decided to bring back King of the Hill. The show lets viewers check in on Arlen, Texas, in a modern setting. Streaming platforms love using proven shows to keep people watching. Reviving a series that has already earned steady revenue is seen as low-risk and potentially very rewarding.

This isn’t Hulu’s first time reviving an old favorite. In 2023, they brought back “Futurama” after a ten-year break. The show went from a moderate performer to one of Hulu’s top-earning animated series.

Total revenue from Futurama is now close to $120 million, with much of that coming after the revival. The third season is set to premiere next month, giving Hulu a chance to attract both longtime fans and new viewers.

The success of these revivals often comes from what experts call “pent-up demand.” Fans who waited years for new episodes rush to watch as soon as the series returns, creating a big spike in interest. The challenge is keeping that momentum going for future seasons, especially when there are so many new shows competing for attention.

Hulu is using this strategy with King of the Hill by releasing all episodes at once on August 4, 2025, instead of spreading them out week by week. This helps them capture the initial wave of fans and keep them engaged longer.

On January 18, 2022, Mike Judge and Greg Daniels announced a new company called Bandera Entertainment, which would work on reviving King of the Hill along with other projects. Hulu picked up the revival on January 31, 2023. The new season premiered on August 4, 2025, on Hulu and Disney+ with Hulu, and it is expected to run for two seasons.

To celebrate the revival, Hulu teamed up with the San Antonio-based Alamo Beer Co. to create King of the Hill-themed Alamo Beer, which will be released in 2025.

Sadly, on June 1, 2025, Jonathan Joss, the second voice actor for John Redcorn, was shot and killed in a confrontation outside his home in San Antonio, Texas. People reported that he had already recorded lines for four episodes of the revival before his death, though it is unclear how the production team will continue from this point.

Despite this tragedy, King of the Hill’s return shows that classic animated series can still bring in big money and remain relevant in today’s streaming world.
