Glen Powell has a clear message about being the next James Bond: it’s not for him. The actor, whose name has been mentioned alongside Tom Holland and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as a possible candidate for the role, made it very clear in a recent interview that he isn’t aiming to become 007.

Powell told the press, “I’m Texan. A Texan should not play James Bond. My family and I joke around, I can play Jimmy Bond, but I should not be playing James Bond. Get an authentic Brit for that job. That’s who belongs in that tuxedo.”

His words make it obvious that he respects the tradition of the character and wants to see it remain in British hands.

The next James Bond movie, often referred to as Bond 26, has been a slow-moving project for years. Daniel Craig’s last film as 007, No Time To Die, came out in 2021, and since then fans have been eager to know who will be the next actor to wear the tuxedo. Powell’s comments come as Amazon takes full creative control of the franchise.

The company is bringing in a new team to shake things up, including producers David Heyman and Amy Pascal. Pascal, known for her work on the Spider-Man movies with Tom Holland and for producing Casino Royale, will be one of the main forces guiding the project.

Denis Villeneuve, the acclaimed director behind Dune and Prisoners, is set to direct the next Bond film. Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, is writing the script. While many actors’ names have appeared on rumored wishlists, including Holland, Taylor-Johnson, and Powell himself, nothing has been officially confirmed yet.

Even though some in the industry have floated the idea of an American Bond, Powell shoots that down immediately. He makes it clear that while a Texan could have fun with a playful version of the character, the real James Bond should be British.

Fans are curious and maybe a little nervous about Amazon’s control over the iconic series, especially with a completely new creative team at the helm. Villeneuve’s direction and Knight’s writing bring high expectations, but Powell’s comments remind everyone that some traditions, like Bond being British, are likely to stay.

Right now, there’s no confirmed release date, title, or lead actor for Bond 26. But with the franchise moving forward under new leadership, and actors like Tom Holland still in the running, the next James Bond film is shaping up to be a major event. And as for Glen Powell, he’s happy to watch from the sidelines and leave the tuxedo to a proper Brit.
