Anime NYC has started, and Netflix showed off some big news for anime fans. One of the biggest updates was for Adi Shankar’s Devil May Cry, which made its debut earlier this year.

The first season was well-loved, with Johnny Yong Bosch voicing Dante, the half-demon hunter with a taste for stylish fights. Now Netflix has confirmed that the series is coming back. Season 2 is set to arrive in 2026, and fans already got their first look with a teaser. The short video wastes no time, showing the long-awaited battle between Dante and his brother Vergil.

The first season of Devil May Cry mixed storylines from different parts of Capcom’s classic game series. It followed Dante as he struggled with his demon blood and tried to step up as a hero when the world needed him most. Along the way, he was hunted by the government’s Dark Realm Command, led by Vice President William Baines, voiced by the late Kevin Conroy.

Dante also worked with Mary, also known as Lady, voiced by Scout Taylor-Compton. Together they faced the White Rabbit, a villain trying to open the gates of Hell. Dante was able to stop him, but the season didn’t end on a happy note.

Even though Dante and Lady built some trust, she still turned him over to the authorities because of his powers. This gave Baines the chance to move forward with his plan to invade Hell and capture demons.

But then came the big twist. Vergil, played by Robbie Daymond, appeared at the end. He was alive and fighting on the side of Mundus, the ruler of Hell. The reveal set the stage for the brothers’ inevitable clash, and the new teaser confirms it. Dante and Vergil are finally going to face each other.

Adi Shankar is back as showrunner for season two, once again working with writer Alex Larsen. Shankar has been busy at Netflix, also producing Castlevania, Castlevania: Nocturne, and Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. Most of the surviving cast from season one is expected to return.

Sadly, Kevin Conroy passed away in 2022, so it’s uncertain who will take over as Baines. Ian James Corlett, who recorded extra dialogue for the role, might come back, but nothing is confirmed yet.

Netflix hasn’t given an exact date yet, but Devil May Cry season two is planned for 2026. The teaser makes one thing clear: Dante and Vergil’s long-awaited duel is finally here.
