Best Movies to Stream this Weekend on Peacock, Including ‘M3GAN’

Peacock has a busy weekend with fresh arrivals and a bunch of crowd favorites ready to press play. You can jump into new releases that just landed or revisit animated hits and teen comedies that are pulling big audiences right now. There is a little bit of everything so picking a lineup for a relaxed evening is easy.

This list focuses first on the newest movies that arrived during the past couple of weeks. After that you will find popular titles that are trending on the service along with a few modern classics that continue to draw viewers with familiar casts and comfort watch stories.

This animated supernatural comedy horror follows a mountain lion named Dan and a young wolf named Gracie after a meteor borne virus turns zoo animals into slobbering mutants. The film is directed by Rodrigo Perez Castro and Ricardo Curtis from a concept by Clive Barker with a script by James Kee and production by Copperheart Entertainment.

The voice cast includes David Harbour as Dan and Gabbi Kosmidis as Gracie with Paul Sun Hyung Lee as Felix and Scott Thompson as Ash. After its theatrical run earlier this year the movie arrived on Peacock on Friday August 22 and is set up as a creature filled adventure with fast moving set pieces.

This science fiction horror story centers on an artificially intelligent doll that forms a dangerous attachment to a young girl after being built by a toy company roboticist. Gerard Johnstone directs from a screenplay by Akela Cooper based on a story by Cooper and James Wan with Allison Williams and Violet McGraw leading the cast and Amie Donald performing the title role on set while Jenna Davis provides the voice.

The film was produced by Atomic Monster and Blumhouse and became a breakout hit in theaters. Both the theatrical cut and an unrated version landed on Peacock on Sunday August 24 which gives viewers two editions to choose from when they want the full story behind the now famous android.

This action thriller marks the feature directing debut of Dev Patel who also co wrote the film and stars in the lead role. The plot follows a young man who rises through an underground fighting ring and takes on corrupt figures after a traumatic past surfaces with high intensity hand to hand combat driving the story.

The movie was backed by Thunder Road among other producers and was released in theaters earlier this year before making the move to streaming. It joined Peacock on Thursday August 14 which brings a recent theatrical title to the platform with Patel front and center both behind and in front of the camera.

This coming of age drama from writer director James Gray is set in 1980s Queens and follows a sixth grader named Paul as he navigates family expectations and friendship during a turbulent school year. The cast features Banks Repeta in the lead alongside Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong with Anthony Hopkins as Paul’s grandfather.

The film was produced by RT Features among other companies and premiered at major festivals before its wider release. It became available on Peacock on Sunday August 17 which adds a recent prestige drama to the service with period detail and an ensemble that includes several award winning actors.

This animated adventure follows four Central Park Zoo animals who unexpectedly wash ashore on the island of Madagascar after a mishap during a transfer trip. The voice cast features Ben Stiller as Alex the lion with Chris Rock as Marty the zebra David Schwimmer as Melman the giraffe and Jada Pinkett Smith as Gloria the hippo alongside Sacha Baron Cohen as King Julien and Andy Richter as Mort.

Directed by Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath for DreamWorks Animation the film launched a long running franchise that expanded into sequels and spin offs. It continues to draw family audiences on Peacock with lively set pieces and characters that returned in later entries across television and features.

This sequel picks up with Alex Marty Melman and Gloria as they leave the island but end up in Africa where Alex reconnects with his parents and the group adapts to life on the savanna. Returning voice actors include Ben Stiller Chris Rock David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith with additional roles voiced by Sacha Baron Cohen Cedric the Entertainer and Andy Richter.

Directed by Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath the second film in the series broadened the setting and explored backstories while keeping the action and humor for family viewing. The music was composed by Hans Zimmer and the movie continued the franchise’s box office success that is reflected in its ongoing streaming popularity.

This chapter follows Po as he reunites with his father Li and discovers a secret panda village while a villain named Kai threatens both the spirit realm and the valley. The voice cast features Jack Black Dustin Hoffman Angelina Jolie and James Hong with Bryan Cranston as Li and J K Simmons as Kai.

Directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Alessandro Carloni for DreamWorks Animation the production included collaboration with the Shanghai based studio then known as Oriental DreamWorks. The film extended the series world building with new characters and settings and remains a frequent family pick on Peacock.

This sequel sends Po and the Furious Five against Lord Shen who wields a new weapon that could end kung fu while Po searches for answers about his past. Jack Black Angelina Jolie Dustin Hoffman Seth Rogen Lucy Liu and David Cross return to voice their roles with Gary Oldman voicing Lord Shen.

Directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson the film earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature and exceeded the worldwide gross of the first entry. DreamWorks Animation produced the movie with a score by Hans Zimmer and a focus on action sequences that remain a draw for streaming viewers.

This musical adventure follows Poppy and Branch as they set out to rescue friends after the Bergens capture members of their village. The voice cast includes Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake with Zooey Deschanel Christopher Mintz Plasse Christine Baranski and James Corden in supporting roles.

Produced by DreamWorks Animation and directed by Mike Mitchell with Walt Dohrn as co director the film spun off into sequels and series. Its soundtrack produced major hits and the bright world and ensemble make it a regular family choice on Peacock.

This teen comedy follows Cher Horowitz as she manages friendships school life and matchmaking at a Beverly Hills high school while mentoring new student Tai. The cast features Alicia Silverstone with Stacey Dash Brittany Murphy and Paul Rudd and includes Dan Hedaya and Donald Faison in key supporting roles.

Written and directed by Amy Heckerling the movie is a modern retelling of Jane Austen’s ‘Emma’ and became a cultural touchstone that later led to a television series and related media. Its quotable dialogue and high school setting have kept it in rotation for years and it remains easy to find on Peacock.
