Spooky season has officially taken over streaming, and Hulu is leaning into it with its annual Huluween event. This year’s lineup ranges from horror favorites like ‘Hereditary,’ ‘Midsommar’ and ‘Barbarian’ to lighter seasonal fare. That mix means there is a Halloween movie for every kind of viewer, whether you want screams or just a cozy, costume friendly night in.

The platform has also made the browsing easy. Hulu’s dedicated Huluween collection divides its offerings into categories, so viewers can find horror, thrillers, comedies, paranormal stories and less frightening seasonal options. For families and anyone who prefers laughs over jump scares, that last category is where the real action tends to be.

Right on cue, one of those family friendly picks has landed on the Hulu Top 10 movies chart. ‘Hotel Transylvania’ sits at number nine as a new entry, just below ‘Halloweentown’ at number eight, which climbed two spots. It arrived on Hulu on October 1 alongside its sequel, so the timing could hardly be better.

The premise is a perfect fit for the season. Count Dracula, voiced by Adam Sandler, runs a lavish resort where monsters can be themselves without humans around to bother them. When he invites creatures like the Invisible Man and the Mummy to celebrate the 118th birthday of his daughter Mavis, played by Selena Gomez, an ordinary human crashes the party and falls in love with her.

Hulu has stacked the first week of October with other crowd pleasers too. The ‘Ghostbusters’ franchise is getting a boost with several films joining the platform on October 1, and all three ‘Night at the Museum’ movies arrive on the same day. It is a lineup that clearly leans toward the playful side of Halloween.

The film also has plenty of reach beyond Hulu. It can be streamed with a subscription on both Hulu and Disney+, and it earned $167.9 million at the United States box office. That kind of staying power helps explain why it keeps reappearing in seasonal rotations.
