Sony Animation & Amazon MGM Studios’ ‘The Haunting Of Hotel Transylvania’ Gets Official Release Date
Hotel Transylvania is officially returning to theaters with a brand-new adventure. Sony Pictures Animation and Amazon MGM Studios have announced that the fifth movie in the popular animated franchise, The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania, will arrive on the big screen on October 8, 2027.
The announcement, reported by Deadline, marks an important return for the series after the previous movie skipped theaters. Hotel Transylvania: Transformania was released exclusively on Prime Video in 2022 after Sony made a deal with Amazon during the COVID-19 pandemic, when movie theaters were heavily affected. As part of that agreement, Amazon MGM Studios gained the opportunity to become a co-producer on the next installment.
Now, the franchise is heading back to theaters, with Sony Pictures handling the North American release and select international markets. Amazon MGM Studios will manage distribution in several major countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Italy, Australia, Brazil and New Zealand.
The Hotel Transylvania movies have become one of Sony Animation’s biggest franchises, earning more than $1.38 billion worldwide across four films. The series follows Dracula, his daughter Mavis and a group of famous monsters who live together at the Hotel Transylvania, a hidden resort where creatures can escape from the human world.
The new movie will continue the story of the monster family but introduce a new mystery. In The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania, Dracula has stepped away from running the hotel and is enjoying retirement, while Mavis takes over leadership of the famous monster destination. However, strange events begin happening throughout the hotel, forcing the Drac Pack to investigate a mysterious haunting.
Jennifer Kluska and Alan Hawkins will direct the film, with Lawrence Jonas producing. Franchise veterans Genndy Tartakovsky and Michelle Murdocca will return as executive producers.
Sony Pictures Animation presidents Kristine Belson and Damien de Froberville said the studio is excited to bring the characters back to theaters and continue the franchise’s legacy.
“From the beginning, Hotel Transylvania has invited audiences into a world where monsters feel like family,” Belson and de Froberville said. “With this next installment, we’re honoring that legacy of heart and humor while delivering the unexpected surprises audiences love. We’re delighted to partner with Amazon MGM Studios to bring the Drac Pack back to theatres for families around the world.”
Amazon MGM Studios’ Head of Film Courtenay Valenti also shared excitement about continuing the partnership with Sony.

“Hotel Transylvania is one of those rare franchises that has become a beloved tradition for families around the world — a film series that has always balanced irreverent humor with genuine heart,” Valenti said. “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Sony Pictures Animation to bring the Drac Pack back to the big screen and continue this legacy of inventive, character-driven storytelling that audiences have embraced for over a decade.”
The original Hotel Transylvania debuted in theaters in 2012 and earned $355 million worldwide. Its sequel, Hotel Transylvania 2, followed with $475 million, while Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation became the biggest movie in the series with $530 million worldwide.
Although Hotel Transylvania: Transformania moved to streaming, the success of the franchise has kept interest alive among fans. With the fifth movie bringing Dracula and his monster friends back to theaters, Sony and Amazon are hoping the series can create another family-friendly hit on the big screen.
