Colin Trevorrow, the filmmaker behind the “Jurassic World” trilogy, has been attached to direct the project, with Trevorrow and Joe Epstein also in talks to write the screenplay. Given Trevorrow’s track record reviving another beloved franchise for modern audiences, Warner Bros. appears to be betting on his experience translating nostalgic properties into contemporary blockbusters.
Carrey’s involvement marks a notable return to a certain kind of high-concept, effects-driven comedy that defined much of his earlier career, following his most recent run playing Dr. Robotnik across all three “Sonic the Hedgehog” films, a franchise that has crossed over $1 billion at the box office collectively.
