A New ‘Obi-Wan’ Kenobi Disney+ Banner Has Fans Convinced Season 2 Is Finally Coming
Star Wars fans have gotten used to combing through the smallest details for hints about what Lucasfilm might be planning next, especially with the franchise’s release calendar looking noticeably thin these days. Beyond ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 and ‘Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord’ Season 2, there isn’t much officially confirmed on the TV side right now.
That scarcity has made fans especially eager to latch onto any small signal, and a recent tweet from Star Wars Holocron has done exactly that. The account shared an image of a refreshed ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ banner on Disney+, asking whether the update could be hinting at something bigger.
The theory gaining traction online is that this visual refresh might be laying groundwork for an announcement of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 2, a project that has existed in rumor purgatory for years without ever being officially confirmed or canceled by Lucasfilm. Given how sparse the current Star Wars TV lineup looks, fans see this as one of the more plausible signs yet that the miniseries could finally get a follow-up.
Part of what keeps this rumor alive is that star Ewan McGregor has repeatedly expressed genuine interest in returning to the role over the years. In a previous interview with Variety, McGregor admitted he would love to do the second season, but there’s no talk of it yet.
That same pattern played out before Season 1 was ever confirmed as well, which is part of why fans don’t necessarily take his hedging at face value. McGregor has also floated his own pitch for what a second season could look like, including bringing back Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker and potentially working in a version of Yoda.
‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ faced a fairly rocky reception when it first landed on Disney+ back in 2022, with critics and fans pointing to its focus on new characters like Reva Sevander instead of leaning more heavily into Obi-Wan himself. Some viewers also felt the character wasn’t portrayed with the level of power expected from someone who had spent a decade in hiding on Tatooine.
Despite that initial pushback, the show’s standing has softened considerably in hindsight, following a pattern that’s become familiar within the Star Wars fanbase over the years. The prequel trilogy’s own reputation transformation is often cited as the clearest example of how this fandom tends to warm up to projects it initially criticized.
With the franchise’s live-action slate looking thin heading into next year, bringing back a project featuring McGregor and potentially Christensen would be a relatively low-risk way to generate buzz. Shows and movies built around those two actors have consistently drawn attention and viewership whenever they’ve reappeared in the franchise, regardless of how divisive the surrounding story might be.
Fans are also pointing to Star Wars Celebration 2027, scheduled for next April in Los Angeles, as a likely venue for any major franchise announcements that might be in the pipeline. Whether the new Disney+ banner is a genuine hint or just a routine refresh remains unclear, but it’s been enough to reignite the conversation around whether Obi-Wan’s story is truly finished.
Nothing has been officially confirmed by Lucasfilm at this point, leaving the banner change as speculation rather than confirmation.
