A New ‘Prison Break’ Is Coming—But Without the Characters That Made It a Hit
Hulu is moving forward with a reboot of Prison Break, but the new series will not continue the original story or bring back its main characters. Instead, it will take place in the same universe and follow a completely new storyline with a different cast and direction.
The original Prison Break first aired in the 2000s and quickly became one of the most popular TV dramas of its time. The first season is still widely praised by fans and critics and is often seen as the strongest part of the series. It was originally planned as a single-season story, but its success led to multiple follow-up seasons. Over time, however, many viewers felt the quality declined, especially in later seasons.
The new Hulu version is not trying to remake the original story. Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, the two main characters from the original series, will not be part of the reboot. They may be mentioned, but the story will focus on new characters and a new setting.
One of the recent casting updates involves Kelli Berglund, who has taken over the role of Cheyenne. The character was previously played by Priscilla Delgado in the pilot episode. The change happened after the pilot was already filmed. Berglund is known for her roles in Animal Kingdom and Heels, and her casting is seen as an important addition to the project.
The reboot already has a growing cast. According to Collider, Emily Browning will play Cassidy, while Drake Rodger joins as Tommy. Lukas Gage has been cast as Jackson, and Clayton Cardenas will play a character named Michael “Ghost.” JR Bourne is set to play Junior, Georgie Flores will appear as Andrea, and Myles Bullock has been cast as Darius “Red.” Several guest stars are also attached, including Ray McKinnon, Margo Martindale, Donal Logue, Lili Taylor, and Lili Powell.

Elgin James is serving as the writer and showrunner for the new series. The project also has several executive producers involved, including Paul Scheuring, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Moritz, all of whom were connected to the original Prison Break in some capacity.
The new story will follow a different kind of lead character. It centers on a soldier who becomes a corrections officer. She takes a job at one of the most dangerous prisons in the country. Her goal is tied to someone she cares about, and she is willing to push herself to extreme limits to protect that person.
Filming for the reboot is expected to begin in June, although it is not fully confirmed whether production has already started. There is still no official release date, but the series is being developed as one of Hulu’s major upcoming projects.
The goal of the reboot is to capture some of the intensity and excitement that made the original Prison Break popular, but with a completely new story and characters. For now, fans of the original series will have to wait and see how this new version develops once it moves further into production.
