The story follows Aang, the last remaining Airbender, as he searches for a way to protect his culture and restore what was lost. According to the official synopsis from Paramount, “Avatar Aang, the world’s last Airbender, learns of an ancient power that could save his culture from extinction. With the help of his friends, he embarks on a global quest to find it before it falls into the wrong hands and threatens to upend the peace they sacrificed everything to achieve.”

In the trailer, Aang struggles with the reality that he is still the only Airbender left in the world, even after everything he has accomplished as the Avatar. His journey changes when he discovers Tagah, an ancient Airbender who may hold the key to bringing his people’s traditions back.

The voice cast includes Eric Nam as Aang, Dave Bautista as Tagah, Jessica Matten as Katara, Román Zaragoza as Sokka, Steven Yeun as Zuko, and Dionne Quan as Toph. The film will continue the story established in the original animated series while exploring a new chapter in Aang’s life.

The movie is based on the popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. The two creators worked on the story for the film alongside Tim Hendrick and Kenneth Lin, while Hendrick and Christopher Yost wrote the screenplay.

Lauren Montgomery serves as director, working with co-directors Steve Ahn and William Mata. The film is produced by Latifa Ouaou, Maryann Garger, DiMartino, and Konietzko, with Avatar Studios behind the project.

The movie will mark the first major release from Avatar Studios, the production company created in 2021 as part of Nickelodeon Animation Studio. The studio is also developing another animated series, Avatar: Seven Havens, which will take place after the events of both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. That series is currently expected to premiere in 2027.
