Actor From ‘Better Call Saul’ Leaves Amazon Job Exploring New Opportunities
John Christian Love, best known for playing Ernesto on the hit series Better Call Saul, recently left his job as an Amazon delivery driver to focus on his acting career. The 35-year-old actor shared his story exclusively with Page Six after his Reddit post about the difficulties of delivery work went viral on social media.
Love explained that the physical demands of rural delivery routes were taking a serious toll on his body. “It was destroying my body,” he said, noting that his scoliosis and Scheuermann’s disease made long hours on the job especially challenging.
Despite stepping away from delivery work, Love remains committed to acting and continues to audition for television and film roles. Even with 11 episodes on a critically acclaimed show, Love says acting hasn’t paid all the bills.
“I pour 110 percent into every role and every shift I work to support my family,” he shared, reflecting on the balance he has had to maintain between his artistic ambitions and regular jobs.
Love studied film in New Mexico and views every chapter of his life, including his time delivering packages, as part of a larger journey of perseverance. He stays in touch with former colleagues like Rhea Seehorn but avoids asking for favors, hoping that his talent speaks for itself.
He is aiming to land a leading role in a feature film or a regular series part. His recent auditions include roles in a new series called Southern Bastards and a spin-off of Snowfall. He said he hopes his viral story will open doors similar to the ones Geoffrey Owens experienced after being seen working at a grocery store.
Love has been acting for over two decades, with appearances in Friday Night Lights, In Plain Sight, and films like Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and Independence Day: Resurgence. He recently faced a setback on the independent film Lone Wolf, which starred Bryan Cranston and Lily Gladstone.
Production halted due to financial problems, leaving cast and crew unpaid. Cranston has publicly supported the team and refused to promote the film until everyone is compensated. The situation is now in arbitration with SAG-AFTRA.
While waiting for the next opportunity, Love stays active on his YouTube channel, where he talks about the realities of working in Hollywood and managing life with ADHD. He emphasized that he’s preparing for the “when” rather than the “if” of landing his next big role.
Fans have praised Love for his honesty about the challenges of being a working actor. His story highlights the unglamorous side of Hollywood while showing his determination to keep pursuing his dreams, no matter the obstacles.
