Robert De Niro is still one of the most respected actors in Hollywood, known for intense performances and a career full of iconic films. Over the decades, he has earned two Academy Awards and the admiration of fans and fellow actors alike.

Even in lighter projects like the Meet the Parents series, his presence stands out, though some films, like Little Fockers, have been met with mixed reviews from critics. Beyond his on-screen work, De Niro has long served as a mentor to younger actors.

Actress Juliette Lewis shared a story that highlights his old-school approach to professionalism. The two worked together on Martin Scorsese’s 1991 thriller Cape Fear, where De Niro played the menacing Max Cady.

Reflecting on her early career, Lewis recounted a lesson she learned from De Niro during her 20s. “Here we are, Bob gives me a glorious compliment, and instead of graciously accepting it, my 20 yrold insecure covered by pride- self says ‘Well yaknow I made up like 90 percent of what I did.

I improvised and wrote scenes, she said, referring to her work in Natural Born Killers. She continued, “Bob looked at me sternly and said, ‘Oh no. No, don’t ever disrespect the writer. Don’t you ever disrespect the writer or your director. Ever.’ In that one moment, I realized so much, I felt like I grew 5 years. I never made that mistake again.”

This story reflects De Niro’s commitment to the craft and his belief in respecting the roles of directors and writers. According to Lewis, De Niro’s guidance helped her understand the importance of collaboration and professional respect on set.

At 82, De Niro shows no signs of slowing down. He recently appeared in the Netflix series Zero Day and starred in The Alto Knights, taking on a dual role. Fans are also looking forward to his next project, the crime thriller The Whisper Man, adapted from Alex North’s bestselling novel, which co-stars Adam Scott and Michelle Monaghan.

Juliette Lewis has continued to thrive in the industry as well. She recently starred in the body-swap dramedy By Design and will appear in the action-comedy Over Your Dead Body, set to premiere at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival before a wider release in April.

De Niro’s story with Lewis is a reminder of the lessons that come from working with legends of the craft, and it underscores the importance of respect, discipline, and collaboration in Hollywood.
