The ‘Star Wars’ universe has been expanding exponentially over the past decade or so, with numerous shows, animated series, and even a ton of new movies. The sequel trilogy was a success, and the fans quickly fell in love with Kylo Ren – one of the main antagonists of the trilogy, portrayed by the talented Adam Driver.

Eventually, Kylo Ren turned back to the Light Side and became Ben Solo again, sacrificing himself for the greater good. As it usually happens in ‘Star Wars,’ fans were hoping that the death wasn’t permanent. Well, if we were to listen to Driver’s recent statements, it seems that a potential return of Kylo Ren (or Ben Solo, for that matter) is not in the books.

Adam recently joined the Smartless podcast and spoke to Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes while promoting his newest film, ‘Ferrari.’ The hosts asked Driver about what’s going on with the ‘Star Wars’ franchise and if we’d see him return, to which he answered:

“[Lucasfilm] are doing stuff, but not with me. I’m not doing it anymore.”

By stuff, Driver likely meant the new Daisy Ridley-led movie that’ll see her return to the role of Rey Skywalker in 2026. Fans have speculated he could make his return in that film as well, but as it turns out, that will likely never happen. Kylo Ren’s story was always supposed to end with the trilogy – although the plan was for Kylo Ren to have a completely different storyline:

“I had an overall arc in mind that he wanted to do, which then changed. His idea was almost the opposite journey of Vader, where Vader starts the most confident, the most committed to the Dark Side, and by the last movie, he’s the most vulnerable and weak, and he wanted to start at the opposite, where this character was the most confused and vulnerable, and by the end of the three movies would be most committed to the Dark Side.”

The turning point was supposed to be the moment when Kylo Ren kills Han Solo – that was supposed to be the moment where he fully embraces the Dark Side. However, seeing the chemistry Adam had with Daisy and the overwhelming desire of fans to see them team up (in one way or another) led the writers to change the narrative and have Kylo Ren turn good, just like Vader.

At the end of the day, it seems that all our hopes of seeing Adam Driver return to ‘Star Wars’ as Kylo Ren or Ben Solo are futile, at least for the time being. Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker remains the only character confirmed to make her return in the new ‘Star Wars’ film in 2026.

It might change somewhere down the line, but don’t get your hopes up to see Kylo. Have something to add? Let us know in the comments below!
