‘Agent Kim Reactivated’ Isn’t Done Yet: Special Episodes Release Date & Time Revealed as Well as Everything to Know
Korean dramas rarely get extra time once their finale airs, which is exactly what made this summer’s biggest SBS hit such an unusual case. Most series wrap their story and move on, leaving fans to simply rewatch or wait for a potential second season announcement somewhere down the line.
‘Agent Kim Reactivated‘ broke from that pattern almost immediately. The action thriller starring So Ji-sub had already been rewriting ratings records throughout its run, and that momentum apparently gave SBS enough reason to extend the show’s life just a little further before letting it go entirely.
That extension comes in the form of two special episodes, set to air on July 31 and August 1, following the drama’s official finale on July 25. An SBS representative confirmed the news, stating that specific content details were “still being planned” at the time and would be shared closer to broadcast.
The decision reflects just how strong the series’ performance has been throughout its ten-episode run. Episode 6, which aired July 11, recorded a 22.3% nationwide rating, the highest of any miniseries to air this year, surpassing previous benchmarks set by hit SBS Friday-Saturday dramas including ‘The Fiery Priest’ at 22.0% and ‘Taxi Driver 2’ at 21.8%.
Given the series’ short episode count, SBS appears to be using the special episodes as a way to soften the blow of the story ending so quickly for such an enthusiastic fanbase. The exact format for these bonus installments hadn’t been finalized at the time of the announcement, but the news alone was enough to generate fresh excitement among viewers still processing the finale.
For anyone catching up, ‘Agent Kim Reactivated’ follows Kim Do-hyeon, a former black-ops agent living quietly as an “ordinary” single father and savings bank employee under the alias Manager Kim. When his daughter Min-ji is kidnapped, Kim is forced to abandon his low-profile life and resurrect the deadly skill set he’d spent years trying to leave behind.
That premise pulled Kim back into a world of old enemies, secret government operations, and unresolved ties stretching back to North Korea, all while his renewed activity as “Agent Kim” drew the attention of the National Special Missions Bureau. The series is based on the Naver Webtoon ‘Manager Kim’ and belongs to the shared PTJ Universe, connecting it to other popular webtoon adaptations like ‘Lookism’ and ‘Viral Hit’ through crossover appearances from characters including Park Jin-cheol and Seong Han-su.
The show’s regular run wrapped with an extended-length finale on July 25, airing five minutes earlier than its usual 9:50 p.m. KST slot to accommodate the longer runtime. That finale worked to resolve Kim’s rescue of Min-ji alongside the fate of his adversary Ju Gang-chan, closing out the main story before these newly announced special episodes pick up the thread.
With both bonus episodes airing on SBS before making their way to international audiences via Netflix, fans outside South Korea should expect the usual staggered release pattern the platform has followed throughout the show’s run. For a series that turned into one of the year’s biggest surprise hits, getting even a little more time with Kim Do-hyeon feels like a fitting send-off.
