Aimee Lou Wood Glows in a Romantic De La Vali Gown at the BFI London Film Festival for ‘The Idiot(s)’ Premiere
Every October, the BFI London Film Festival turns the South Bank into one of the biggest stages for film fashion in Britain. This year marks the festival’s 70th edition, running from October 7 to 18, with a lineup that mixes prestige dramas and bold new voices. It’s the kind of event where red carpet looks can feel as carefully chosen as the films themselves.
Aimee Lou Wood is a perfect fit for that setting. The British actress has had a whirlwind run since breaking out in ‘Sex Education’ and landing Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for ‘The White Lotus’. She has also built a reputation for soft, vintage-inspired dressing that mirrors her roles.
She brought that signature style to the festival this week. Wood attended the screening of ‘The Idiot(s)’ at BFI Southbank on October 14, wearing a pale sage and soft yellow gown that looks plucked from a romantic period drama. The Aimee Lou Wood BFI London Film Festival look has been a standout, thanks to its mix of delicate textures and quiet glamour.

The dress is the De La Vali ‘Auralite’ gown, with a fitted lace bodice in a buttery yellow shade and delicate ruffled shoulder details. A pale sage skirt falls below it, with cascading tiers adding movement. The overall effect is soft and slightly vintage, with plenty of texture.
Wood kept the styling understated. She paired it with silver jewelry, including a chain necklace with a heart pendant, along with rings and a bracelet. Her hair was styled in a soft, tousled bob, letting the dress do most of the talking.
Aimee Lou Wood says she had to “quieten” her voice early in her career and was made to feel afraid speaking up on sets: “Having to hide how clever you are and how much you see things… you’re having to dilute that to make people feel comfortable” #LFF https://t.co/Bosedrl0MK

The outfit suited the evening’s film. ‘The Idiot(s)’ is a German-Polish period drama directed by Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert, and it’s competing for the festival’s best film award among 10 titles. Wood plays Anna Dostoevsky opposite Johnny Flynn as Fyodor Dostoevsky.

The BFI describes the film as acerbic and joyful, and praises both leads as superb. It’s based on the novel ‘The Gambler Wife: A True Story of Love, Risk, and the Woman Who Saved Dostoyevsky’. The festival listing puts the runtime at 118 minutes.
Vicky Krieps also stars and attended the screening, wearing Bottega Veneta. Wood wrapped production on the film earlier, alongside another project, and the premiere marks a major moment for the cast.

This isn’t Wood’s first notable fashion moment of the year. At the BAFTAs in February, she presented in a soft pink strapless Emilia Wickstead gown, paired with Tiffany and Co. diamond jewelry. At the Actor Awards, she wore a pale blue off-the-shoulder Atelier Versace gown with jewels by Frank Darling.
She also arrived at the Golden Globes in a black ballgown with a floral bodice, hand-in-hand with her ‘Film Club’ co-star Adam Long. The festival look continues the trend toward romantic, feminine dressing, and each outing has felt distinctly her own.

Her schedule is packed. She’s set to appear in ‘Anxious People’, the film adaptation of Fredrik Backman’s novel directed by Marc Forster, with Angelina Jolie also in the cast. She’s also playing Pattie Boyd, the first wife of George Harrison, in Sam Mendes’ four-part Beatles biopic, which is due in April 2028.
That Beatles project has become one of the most talked-about in film. All 4 movies are expected to open in the same month, and Wood appears across the series. It’s a major step for an actress who has built her career on warm, offbeat performances.
Wood’s rise has been defined by a willingness to be herself on screen and off. She won a BAFTA TV Award for her role as Aimee Gibbs in ‘Sex Education’, stood out opposite Bill Nighy in ‘Living’, and co-wrote the BBC Three series ‘Film Club’. Her work on ‘The White Lotus’ made her a global name.
The BFI look reflects that same ethos: a little whimsical, a little nostalgic and entirely her own. With a festival competition entry, a major biopic and a string of high-profile roles ahead, Wood looks set to keep stealing the spotlight.
