Alan Ritchson’s Netflix Blockbuster Sequel Finally Gets a Title — And Fans Are Losing It

Netflix’s biggest movie hit of 2026 is officially getting a follow-up, and the sequel now has a name.

The title reveal came through an Instagram post connected to the project. A black-and-white image showed what appeared to be a script cover placed under a large mech figure.

While the post did not make a direct announcement, fans noticed a small but important detail: the final letter of the title was highlighted with a slow zoom, revealing the added “S” at the end.

The change from War Machine to War Machines appears to be a clear nod to classic sci-fi sequel naming. Much like Alien became Aliens when James Cameron expanded Ridley Scott’s original universe, Netflix’s sequel suggests that audiences will see more than just one powerful machine this time around.

War Machines is being written by Patrick Hughes and James Beaufort, who are returning to continue the story. Details about the plot are still being kept secret, but the title change hints that the sequel could introduce a larger world, more threats, and possibly more advanced technology.

Alan Ritchson, who led the first movie as 81, previously celebrated the sequel news on social media. The actor thanked the fans who helped turn War Machine into one of Netflix’s biggest successes and shared his excitement for what comes next. “What a monumental day. So many of you are a part of the War Machine world now. It’s incredible to build it with you in mind.”

Ritchson also praised the team behind the movie and said the success of the first film was only the beginning. “Top 10 films of all time on Netflix is crazy. But this was just the appetizer. Wild times ahead. We’re just getting started.”

According to production information, War Machines is currently in development with a reported budget between $50 million and $100 million. The movie is expected to be a collaboration between Australia and the United States, with Lionsgate, Hidden Pictures, Range Media Partners, and Huge Film involved in the production for Netflix.

The sequel will also see several producers return, including Rich Cook, Todd Lieberman, Greg McLean, and Alexander F. Young. Valerie Bleth Sharp is attached as an executive producer.

The decision to move forward with another film comes as no surprise when looking at the performance of the original War Machine. According to Netflix’s own viewership report for the first half of 2026, the movie became the platform’s biggest movie release of the year so far.

Released worldwide on March 6, 2026, War Machine reportedly collected 146.9 million views, which equals around 266.8 million hours watched. Those numbers placed it ahead of other major Netflix releases from the year, including The Rip, Swapped, and Apex.

The success also helped the film earn a spot among Netflix’s most-watched movies ever, making a sequel almost inevitable.

For now, Netflix has not revealed a release date for War Machines, but with the project moving forward and Alan Ritchson returning, fans can expect the next chapter to bring even bigger action and a much larger sci-fi world.
