All Eyes on Milly Alcock as She Showcases Her Effortless Edge at ‘Supergirl’ Event
DC Studios is pulling out all the stops ahead of one of its most anticipated summer releases, and on June 6, the hype landed firmly at The Grove in Los Angeles.
Milly Alcock, who stars as Kara Zor-El in the upcoming ‘Supergirl’, made a personal appearance at the launch of the film’s Intergalactic Station pop-up experience, bringing the energy of the Maid of Might directly to fans in a stunning all-black ensemble.
The two-day activation transforms the iconic LA destination into an immersive celebration of ‘Supergirl’, inviting guests to explore interactive installations, exclusive merchandise, themed photo opportunities, giveaways, and movie ticketing experiences. Visitors can also get an up-close look at the Spacehog vehicle featured in the film. Alcock was joined at the kick-off event by co-star Jason Momoa, who plays intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo, and screenwriter Ana Nogueira.
The LA stop is just one leg of a major international world tour, with the Intergalactic Station also set to visit London, New York, and Rio de Janeiro ahead of the film’s wide release. The scale of the promotional push reflects how much is riding on ‘Supergirl’ as the second feature in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Universe.
Based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s graphic novel ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’, the film is directed by Craig Gillespie and follows Kara as she travels across the galaxy alongside her dog Krypto and a young alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, played by Eve Ridley, on a quest for vengeance and justice. The supporting cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and David Corenswet reprising his role as Superman.
What makes Alcock’s portrayal especially compelling is the deliberate messiness at its core. Alcock noted that Kara is “not trying to save the world, she’s just trying to save her own,” describing the film as “an excellent reminder that the world can be crumbling around you, but you can be the hero of your own story.” It is a vision of Supergirl that actively resists the polished, inspirational archetype fans might expect.
In a candid conversation with Variety, Alcock reflected on why she accepted a role that frightened her, saying “I knew that it was what I needed to do, because it scared me,” and adding that her connection to Kara ran deeper than she anticipated: “What Kara was going through that I was going through is she’s someone who has been at war with themselves.”
Fan anticipation has been building steadily, and the Intergalactic Station pop-up is clearly designed to channel that excitement into something tangible before release day. Produced by Gunn and Safran through DC Studios on a reported budget of $170 million, ‘Supergirl’ is scheduled to open internationally on June 24, with a North American release in theaters and IMAX following on June 26. If Friday’s crowd at The Grove is any indication, Kara Zor-El’s moment has well and truly arrived.
