Alleged ‘Superman’ Test Screening Buzz Reveals Surprises: Comedy, Mysterious Characters & Debunked Rumors!

Ever since the movie was announced, James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ is easily one of the most discussed upcoming superhero flicks. Directed by James Gunn, it stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
This film is expected to restart Superman’s story after the struggles of the previous DCEU and launch the new DC Universe in a big way.
The film, originally called ‘Superman: Legacy,’ explores Superman’s struggle to balance his Kryptonian roots with his upbringing as Clark Kent in Smallville, all while embracing traditional values in a modern world. Gunn confirmed several times the movie won’t be an origin story.
We’ve previously heard that the movie has already had test screenings, but rumors about their reception have been mixed. Some claim the screenings were a success, while others say they went poorly. Given the nature of leaks and rumors, it’s impossible to confirm or debunk either claim.
The latest test screening information comes from r/DCULeaks, a popular subreddit focused on leaks and rumors about the newly established DC universe. The subreddit carefully vets its sources, making its information generally more accurate and reliable than most other online platforms.
Now the mods over at r/DCULeaks published something really interesting. They published a post that talks about a recent Superman movie test screening. However, everything mentioned is unverified and should be taken with caution.
Allegedly, the movie is not a comedy but has humorous moments. Some characters are unexpected, and most online rumors are incorrect. The trailer mainly features early scenes from the film. Krypto has a significant but somewhat forced role. There was no after-credits scene in the screening, though one could be added.
Rick Flagg Sr. appears without clear Creature Commandos references, while Amanda Waller gets a brief mention. The film is enjoyable even for non-DC fans, with Lois and Clark’s relationship playing a key role. Rachel Brosnahan shines as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult delivers a strong but occasionally over-the-top Lex Luthor.
His henchmen are entertaining but not essential. Some visual effects, especially at the Ice Palace and on the big monster’s face, appeared rough. Despite a large cast, the story remains focused.
Leaked test screening details and reactions are nothing new. For example, not long ago, someone from a test audience leaked the entire Captain America: Brave New World online. As expected, the plot largely matched the final version we saw, with only a few details and scenes eventually confirmed to have been removed from the film.
‘Superman’ is set to release in theaters internationally on July 9, 2025, and in the United States on July 11, 2025, in IMAX. It will be the first movie in the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
