‘All’s Fair’ Star Kim Kardashian’s (46) Mystique Look Resurfaces, but Her Real Halloween Costume Is Someone Much Closer to Home
Halloween photos never really die online, and few celebrity looks have been recycled as often as Kim Kardashian’s blue-skinned turn as Marvel’s shapeshifting mutant. Every spooky season, those images find a second life, usually with a caption that makes them look brand new. This year, the Kim Kardashian Mystique costume is making the rounds again just as Mystique herself is about to return to the big screen.
That timing has helped the old photos spread, because Marvel fans are primed for anything X-Men related. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is due in theaters on December 18, and it features Rebecca Romijn returning to the role she originated in 2000. A fresh wave of Mystique interest was always going to find its way back to Kardashian’s body-painted transformation.

Despite how the images are being shared, the Mystique look is not Kardashian’s 2026 costume. She wore it for Halloween 2022, when she transformed into the X-Men character with slicked-back red hair, blue body paint and yellow contact lenses, according to coverage from that year. The look also included a figure-hugging, full-body blue latex-style outfit worn to a Halloween party with Lala Anthony.
Entertainment roundups published this week still list the Mystique costume among her best-known looks, alongside her turn as Elle Woods from ‘Legally Blonde’ in 2019. That means the photos circulating now match a costume from several years ago, not something she debuted this weekend.
Kardashian’s actual 2026 Halloween look arrived early. On October 20, she posted a carousel of 18 photos and videos captioned “Halloween 2026,” in which she dressed as her daughter, 13-year-old North West. The look included a long turquoise wig, faux facial piercings, a black grill, long nails and North’s goth-glam style, right down to the hand-over-the-mouth pose.
Fans were stunned at first. One wrote that she thought the photos were of North, and others said the resemblance between mother and daughter was uncanny. Her family members also reacted warmly, and The Hollywood Reporter included the costume in its list of the best celebrity Halloween looks of the year.

Kardashian has built a reputation for elaborate Halloween transformations. In 2024, she appeared as an almost-nude albino alligator using a combination of prosthetics and body paint, with behind-the-scenes photos showing the application process. Past looks have also included a futuristic worm family ensemble, Pamela Anderson circa 1999 and Madonna from the 1991 Academy Awards.
She usually wears more than one costume each season, so more 2026 looks may still appear. One outlet even called the North West costume her possible first of the year. If history is any guide, fans should expect at least one more surprise.
The renewed Mystique chatter has plenty to do with Marvel. Romijn played the character in the original X-Men trilogy and made a brief cameo in ‘X-Men: First Class’ before Jennifer Lawrence took over the younger version. She is now returning in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ alongside Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Alan Cumming and Kelsey Grammer.
Romijn has said her first question when she got the call was about the makeup process, and she has described her return as a different take on the character. The trailer has also drawn debate, showing Mystique in a white X-Men costume with shorter red hair, and some fans have criticized the wig. That conversation makes a classic full-blue interpretation look even more striking by comparison.
The episode is a handy reminder of how quickly old celebrity content can be repackaged as news. Mystique’s blue scales are among the most recognizable Halloween looks in pop culture, which is why photos of them travel so well. Still, the real story of Kardashian’s Halloween this year is a mother turning herself into her teenage daughter, not a return to the X-Men.
If you’re curious how the franchise’s villain-turned-antihero will look on the big screen, you will have to wait until December. Until then, expect plenty more throwback photos, and plenty more debate over who wore Mystique best.
