Amy Pascal Reveals When Fans Will Finally Discover the New James Bond, and It’s Sooner than Expected

The search for cinema’s next 007 has stretched on for years now, ever since Daniel Craig hung up his tuxedo and bid farewell to the role that defined his career. That kind of prolonged uncertainty tends to breed endless speculation, and the Bond fandom has spent countless months trading theories about who might step into one of the most coveted roles in film.

What’s made the wait particularly tense is how tightly the production has guarded its process. Every development, from directors to producers to casting directors, has arrived in careful, deliberate stages rather than one sweeping announcement, leaving fans to piece together the timeline from scattered updates.

Now producer Amy Pascal has offered what might be the clearest signal yet on when that wait could finally end. Speaking to Deadline, Pascal addressed the timeline directly, stating, “the end of the year is a good bet” for when the next actor to take on the role of 007 will be announced.

Pascal, who has overseen the franchise’s development alongside producer David Heyman since being brought on, also gave some insight into the deliberate pace of the search. “We are being really, really methodical,” she told Deadline, acknowledging the weight of following in Barbara Broccoli’s footsteps and noting that Daniel Craig is “a hard act to follow.”

That methodical approach has been evident behind the scenes for months. Director Denis Villeneuve and producers Pascal and Heyman recently notified actors who advanced to the next round of auditions, with the next tests expected to take place in August and Villeneuve reportedly reaching out directly to talent.

The names swirling around the casting search have remained a tightly guarded secret throughout the process. While the identities of the finalists are a mystery, names like Callum Turner, Tom Francis, Harris Dickinson, and Jacob Elordi have been rumored as potential candidates, with the summer auditions signaling that casting director Nina Gold, alongside Pascal and Heyman, are entering a decisive stage.

Behind the scenes, the studio appears to have a fairly specific profile in mind for its next leading man. Several studio executives have indicated that Amazon MGM is reportedly looking for a younger actor, preferably under 30, who can carry the franchise across multiple films the way Craig did during his 15-year run that began in 2006.

The road to this point has been a slow build. Amazon MGM Studios tapped Pascal, through her Pascal Pictures banner, and Heyman, through Heyday Films, to produce the new iteration of 007 after acquiring full creative rights to the franchise. Nina Gold later closed her own deal to join as casting director, working alongside Villeneuve, Pascal, and Heyman in the search for the next actor to don the iconic role.

With screenwriter Steven Knight also attached to pen the script, the creative team behind Bond 26 is now fully assembled, leaving casting as the last major piece of the puzzle before production can move forward. Given how carefully every step of this process has unfolded so far, Pascal’s comments suggest fans won’t have to wait much longer for a name to finally attach itself to the world’s most famous secret agent.
