Andor Season 2 is coming, and it sounds like it’s going to be intense for everyone involved. Fans already know how Cassian Andor’s story ends in Rogue One, but there are still many characters whose futures remain a mystery. According to showrunner Tony Gilroy, this season will test them all in powerful and painful ways.

Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, is slowly becoming the full rebel spy we see in Rogue One. But he’s not the only one going through big changes. Characters like Luthen Rael, Bix Caleen, and Mon Mothma’s family will all be deeply affected by the growing rebellion.

Tony Gilroy gave a hint of what’s coming in a new interview with Empire. “What is the real effect of time — pressurised, painful time — on ordinary people that hopefully you care a lot about?” he said. Season 2 will explore what happens to their love, their families, and their homes when they’re caught in the middle of a revolution.

Those are the big tectonic moves of the second season,” Gilroy explained. No one will come out of it unchanged.

Luthen Rael, the secretive leader of a small rebel group, will also face big challenges. In Season 2, his quiet, behind-the-scenes work turns into something much larger. “Now, all of a sudden, he’s going public,” said Gilroy. “What do you do if your currency is privacy and secrecy, and failure is death? How do you scale up? How do you play with others?

That question will be key as different rebel groups begin to work together, eventually forming the full Rebellion we see later in Star Wars. “How do all the disparate pieces of the Rebellion come together in Yavin?” Gilroy asked.

The show is also meant to make Rogue One even more meaningful. Diego Luna shared that once fans rewatch Rogue One after Season 2, it will feel different. “You’re gonna hear some lines [on a rewatch] and go [gasps gutturally],” Luna promised. “Before, you just passed over them. Not anymore.

It’s clear that Andor Season 2 is going to be deep, emotional, and full of change. With strong characters and tough choices ahead, the rebellion will never feel the same again.
