Marvel Studios is expanding its animated universe with the upcoming adult series Marvel Zombies, set to stream on Disney+.

The show, created by Bryan Andrews and Zeb Wells, is based on the popular Marvel Comics series and continues the story from the “What If… Zombies?!” episode of the animated series What If…?. It marks the 16th television entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will be produced by Marvel Studios Animation.

Marvel Zombies follows a group of survivors battling superpowered zombies in an alternate timeline, as they try to save the world. Bryan Andrews serves as showrunner and director, while Zeb Wells is the head writer.

The series brings together a star-studded cast, including Awkwafina, David Harbour, Simu Liu, Elizabeth Olsen, Randall Park, Florence Pugh, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Hailee Steinfeld, Tessa Thompson, Dominique Thorne, and Iman Vellani, many reprising their MCU roles, along with Todd Williams.

The series will maintain the same animation style as What If…? with Stellar Creative Lab providing the visuals. Notably, Marvel Zombies will be Marvel Studios Animation’s first TV-MA-rated series. The show is set to premiere on Disney+ on September 24, and will consist of four episodes. It is officially part of Phase Six of the MCU.

In a recent interview with ComicBook, Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum and showrunner Bryan Andrews revealed that a plan for a second season is already prepared, awaiting approval to move forward. Winderbaum encouraged fans to watch the show, saying, “Please, like, people have got to subscribe to Disney+ and watch this show. If that happens, they will get more. And we are excited. We’re ready.”

This new series promises to blend familiar MCU characters with a darker, more intense storyline. With a high-profile cast and creative team, Marvel Zombies could become a standout addition to Disney+’s lineup.

In my opinion, this series looks like a thrilling expansion of the MCU, giving fans a chance to see their favorite heroes in a completely different, grittier setting. What do you think about Marvel diving into a zombie storyline? Share your thoughts in the comments.
