Another Trevor Henderson Horror Icon Heads To Hollywood After ‘Siren Head’ Success
Cartoon Cat is officially heading to the big screen, and Hollywood is moving fast to turn another one of Trevor Henderson’s terrifying creations into a movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony’s TriStar Pictures has secured the feature film rights to Cartoon Cat in a pre-emptive deal, making it the second major Henderson property to land at a major studio in just a matter of weeks.
The announcement comes shortly after Warner Bros. won a heated five-studio bidding war for Henderson’s Siren Head, with Brian Duffield set to direct and co-write the film alongside Zach Cregger. Now, Sony is hoping to repeat that success by bringing Cartoon Cat to theaters.
Unlike Siren Head, which became famous for its towering skeletal appearance and eerie sirens, Cartoon Cat is one of Henderson’s strangest and most unsettling creations. The creature resembles an old-fashioned black-and-white cartoon mascot inspired by animation from the 1930s, but behind its cheerful smile is something far more disturbing. Cartoon Cat can stretch and reshape its body, grow to impossible sizes, and move in unnatural ways that make it almost impossible to predict.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the creature is described as an ancient evil that uses humanity’s shared memories of classic cartoons as a way to enter the real world. Once it appears, it leaves a trail of violent destruction, making it one of Henderson’s most dangerous monsters.
Trevor Henderson first introduced Cartoon Cat through digital artwork shared online, where it quickly became one of his most recognizable original creations. His eerie monster illustrations have attracted billions of views across social media over the years, helping build a massive fan base that has grown well beyond the horror community. Cartoon Cat became especially popular thanks to fan animations, games, YouTube videos, and online horror stories, with many fans placing it alongside Siren Head as one of Henderson’s signature monsters.
Sony appears eager to move quickly with the project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, TriStar has already started searching for a filmmaker to direct the adaptation. Nicole Brown and Malcolm Gray will oversee development for the studio as work begins on bringing the creature to life.
The film will be produced by Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Scott Glassgold, J. Todd Harris, Thomas Pettinelli, and Marc Marcum. Lee and Glassgold are also producing Warner Bros.’ upcoming Siren Head movie, giving both of Henderson’s biggest creations experienced horror producers.
Hollywood’s growing interest in internet-born horror has exploded over the past year. The success of projects inspired by online creators, including Kane Parsons’ Backrooms and Markiplier’s Iron Lung, has shown studios that viral horror concepts can attract large audiences. Henderson’s creatures have long been considered some of the biggest names in that space, making it no surprise that major studios are now racing to secure his work.
Sony also has an existing relationship with Henderson. He previously created concept art for Screen Gems’ horror film Tarot, and this latest deal further strengthens that partnership while showing the studio’s continued interest in creator-driven horror franchises.
