Anya Taylor-Joy Asked To Compare Joni Mitchell and Princess Peach in Today Interview

Anya Taylor-Joy grabbed attention during a recent interview on the Today show when she was asked an unusual question. The actress, 29, was mainly there to talk about her role as the voice of Princess Peach in the upcoming The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the follow-up to the 2023 hit film.

During the interview, host Craig Melvin suddenly shifted topics and asked about rumors that Taylor-Joy might play legendary singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell in a new biopic. Then he tried to connect the two very different figures.

“You’re rumored to be playing Joni Mitchell … one of the, arguably, most singularly important women in music over the last generation or so. Princess Peach, one of the most iconic women in gaming history. What’s the connection there?” he asked.

The question left Taylor-Joy clearly surprised. “What’s the connection between Joni and Princess Peach?” she asked, needing clarification. Melvin confirmed he wanted to know the link.

Despite the strange comparison, Taylor-Joy handled it with poise. “How they’re both singular; you can’t touch them,” she said, showing respect for both Mitchell and Princess Peach. She added, “They’re in a league of their own,” wrapping up the question gracefully.

The clip from the interview quickly went viral on social media, getting millions of views in hours. Many praised Taylor-Joy for staying professional and calm during such an odd moment.
