Anya Taylor-Joy Channels Early 2000s Denim Trends With This Retro Look
Anya Taylor-Joy turned heads in Paris this week by putting her own twist on Dior’s latest fall collection. The day after the brand’s runway show, which featured denim brushing the floor, Taylor-Joy hit the streets wearing a look that felt straight out of the early 2000s.
She wore a jacket from the runway show, but added her own Y2K energy. According to sources, creative director Jonathan Anderson gave Taylor-Joy a special brocade Dior coat.
It was a gift that is far cooler gift than a typical event goodie bag. She paired the shearling-lined, peplum-hemmed jacket with casual spring denim, keeping the runway shape on top but changing things up below.

Instead of sparkling crystal-heavy jeans like those on the runway, she chose simple cuffed trousers. Rolling the hems a few times showed off her sharp black pumps, sending a clear message to millennials that it might be time to bring back classic heels.
Taylor-Joy’s outfit revived a combo that was everywhere from 2005 to 2010: rolled-up jeans with black heels. Stars like Lauren Conrad, Katie Holmes, and Tracee Ellis Ross made it a go-to look.
Ross wore it at a Proenza Schouler Fall 2005 event with her jeans rolled so high they looked like capris. Conrad liked skinny jeans, while Holmes often matched bulky denim with equally bold shoes. By 2013, Selena Gomez had made rolled jeans with black Louboutins a daily wardrobe staple.
This style isn’t really new—it’s more of a memory lane moment. Rolling the jeans down gives a timeless, French feel, while keeping them rolled adds that fun, 2000s vibe. Unlike the high-vamp flats popular with stars like Kendall Jenner, this denim revival could catch on very quickly.
Away from fashion, Taylor-Joy is busy with big projects. She’s set to return for Dune: Part Three alongside stars like Timothée Chalamet. She’s also back in animation as Princess Peach in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
On TV, she’s starring in and developing an Apple TV+ series called Lucky, adapted from Marissa Stapley’s thriller novel. Her Paris street style proves that even simple denim and heels can make a statement—and that old trends can feel fresh again.
