Apple Original Films has announced that the blockbuster racing drama “F1 The Movie,” starring Brad Pitt, will be available for streaming worldwide on Apple TV starting December 12.

The film’s arrival on the platform follows a record-breaking run in theaters, where it became a global box office hit and one of the most successful sports films ever made.

Released in theaters on June 27, the movie quickly sped to the top of the charts, earning more than $629 million worldwide.

Not only did it set a new record as the highest-grossing sports film in history, but it also became the year’s top-earning original film and Brad Pitt’s biggest box office success so far. It opened at number one, gained an A CinemaScore from audiences, and received an impressive 97% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer shared his excitement about the film’s next chapter, saying, “It’s been thrilling to see audiences around the world embrace ‘F1 The Movie’ in theaters. Now, we’re beyond excited to bring this exhilarating, cinematic ride to fans everywhere through Apple TV’s unparalleled global reach. Partnering with Apple and Formula 1 has been an incredible journey, and we’re proud that even more viewers, from every corner of the world, will get to experience the heart-pounding action and passion that defines ‘F1 The Movie.’”

The story follows Sonny Hayes, played by Brad Pitt, a once-promising Formula 1 driver whose career was cut short by a terrible accident decades ago. Now living as a wandering racer, Sonny gets another chance at redemption when his former teammate Ruben Cervantes, played by Javier Bardem, invites him to return to Formula 1.

Ruben’s team is on the brink of collapse, and he hopes Sonny’s comeback will help turn things around. Racing alongside a young, talented driver named Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris, Sonny faces old rivalries, personal regrets, and the intense pressure of the sport he once loved.

The film was directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for his visually stunning filmmaking, and was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Lewis Hamilton, Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Chad Oman.

The movie also stars Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Bardem. It was filmed during real Formula 1 Grand Prix events, giving viewers an authentic racing experience. Ehren Kruger wrote the screenplay, and the creative team included cinematographer Claudio Miranda, editor Stephen Mirrione, and legendary composer Hans Zimmer.

“F1 The Movie” blends high-speed racing with emotional storytelling, delivering both action and heart. With its success on the big screen, fans can now look forward to streaming it at home starting December 12 on Apple TV.
