Apple Yet to Confirm ‘Imperfect Women’ Season 2 Despite Star’s Optimism
The arrival of “Imperfect Women” on Apple TV+ has brought together two of television’s most formidable powerhouses: Kerry Washington and Elisabeth Moss. Based on the gripping psychological thriller by Araminta Hall, the series has captivated audiences with its raw, unflinching look at female friendship, secrets, and the messy reality of being “imperfect.”
As the first season unfolds, fans are already asking the inevitable question: Is this a one-and-done limited series, or is there a future for these characters? While the show was initially billed as a limited series, the stars and executive producers are already hinting that the story might not be over.
Officially, Apple TV+ has not yet confirmed a second installment. However, the creative team intentionally left the door cracked open. Speaking to TV Insider, Elisabeth Moss explained that the ambiguity of the finale was a conscious choice designed to leave the audience wanting more.
“We want you to be asking what’s going on there,” Moss confirmed. “What we settled on and really wanted was to raise the question: What is going on there? But not answer it. So there is not an answer right now. We would need a Season 2 to tell you.”
If the series does return, the narrative would likely shift from the central mystery of the book to the evolving, complicated bond between the lead characters. Kerry Washington highlighted that while the characters may be moving in different directions, their connection remains the heartbeat of the show.
“If we ever had the opportunity to continue to explore it and answer that question, I think it’s a really great question,” Washington said. “I think what’s really nice is that it doesn’t feel like they’ve cut ties. Their friendship is not over, but it does feel like they are able to have a bit more space and sort of get comfortable in separate families and separate communities. But that doesn’t mean that they’re still not family to each other. Sometimes you have to expand your world a little bit.”
Both actresses agreed that there’s “so much more to explore” and that they “love working together.” The logistics of bringing the full cast back for a sequel are already being brainstormed; Moss joked, “We just have to figure out how to get Nancy in there!” to which Washington suggested using “more flashbacks” as a creative way for Mara’s character to remain a central part of the story.
Beyond the plot, the desire for a second season stems from the unique, empowering environment behind the scenes. Washington and Moss served as executive producers, creating a production culture defined by mutual respect and shared experience.
Washington admitted that any decision regarding the show’s future would be a collective one: “We have really strong writers and strong co-producers, so that’s a conversation that’s bigger than just me, which is one of the things I really loved about making this show.”
She continued, “There has been so much sisterhood and solidarity in how we approached every stage of this process. To be part of a show where every single one of the lead actresses, we’ve all held our own shows, we’ve all been number one on the call sheet, we’ve all done it, and to link arms and join forces and make these decisions together as actresses, and Lizzy and I as EPs, and to really work hand-in-hand with our other EPs, our writers, our directors … to be part of a team of women that is so collaborative and respectful of each other’s powers and gifts has just been a dream.”
While the “limited series” tag often means a definitive end, the success of Imperfect Women and the vocal enthusiasm of its stars suggest that Apple TV+ has a potential franchise on its hands. Whether through a direct continuation or an expansion of the “Imperfect” universe, it is clear that Washington and Moss are not quite ready to say goodbye to these characters.
For now, viewers will have to sit with the questions raised by the first season—and hope that a second season eventually provides the answers.
