Assassin’s Creed Shadows Title Update 1.0.4 Arrives Tomorrow — New Story Content and Fixes Revealed

Ubisoft has revealed the full patch notes for the new Assassin’s Creed Shadows Title Update 1.0.4, which will launch tomorrow at 7 AM PT. This update adds new story content, fixes many bugs, and improves performance across all platforms. It also includes a specific fix for Steam Deck users.
The download size depends on your platform. On PS5, it’s 4.67 GB. On Xbox Series X|S, it’s 20 GB. On PC, the update is 17 GB, while Steam users will download 8.5 GB. Mac users will need around 9 GB.
One of the main new features is a free story mission called The Works of Luis Frois. In this mission, players meet Luis Frois at a Jesuit Mission in Azuchi. You’ll help him recover lost notes and protect Lady Satoko. You can play this quest as either Naoe or Yasuke. To start it, you need to finish “The Path He Walks” from Yasuke’s quest board.
Another addition is character bios in the Codex. This helps players keep track of the many characters they meet during the game.
The update also fixes many bugs. Some quests were not working correctly, including “Astray,” “Fight of the Kakushiba Ikki,” and “The Onryo Samurai.” Characters like Nagato and Momochi Sandayu now behave as they should. There were problems with dialogue and quest markers, and these are now fixed.
There were also several issues with stealth and combat. Abilities like Ground Assassination and Guaranteed Assassination now work properly. Some weapons and skills were broken or did not trigger correctly, and these have been repaired.
Using smoke bombs or crouching during a sprint now works more smoothly. The visual effects and character animations have also been improved, and some items that couldn’t be equipped or used before are now fixed.
Shops no longer sell the same item multiple times, and religious buildings now have props that can’t be destroyed. Too many deer were showing up on roads, and that’s been fixed too. A bug where buying headgear would crash the menu is also gone.
There were also performance improvements. Crashes and freezing have been reduced, and the game now runs better overall. Visual bugs in Photo Mode have been cleaned up, including effects that stayed on the screen when they shouldn’t.
Platform-specific problems were addressed too. Xbox players now have the “Balanced” graphics mode again. PC players will see better VRAM usage info in the performance overlay. Ultra-wide screen settings and control bindings have been fixed.
Steam Deck users will see better performance in early scenes. On macOS, the resolution options now work correctly in windowed mode, and PS5 controllers show the correct lights.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, Epic Games, and Ubisoft Connect. This update brings new content and many improvements that should make the game smoother and more enjoyable for everyone.
