‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Creators Already Have Season 4 Plans in Mind for Netflix
Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender is currently planned to end with Season 3, but the creative team has already started thinking about what could happen after that.
According to an interview with ScreenRant, executive producers Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani revealed they already have ideas for a potential fourth season, even though no continuation has been announced by Netflix.
The series is based on Nickelodeon’s beloved animated show and follows Aang, the last surviving Airbender, as he travels with Katara, Sokka, and Toph to stop the Fire Nation and bring peace back to the world. After the first season became a major success, Netflix renewed the show through Season 3, allowing the live-action adaptation to tell the complete story from the original series.
Even though Season 3 is expected to wrap up Aang’s main journey, Boylan admitted that the creative team naturally keeps thinking about stories beyond that ending. She explained that while Netflix ultimately decides whether the series continues, the writers enjoy exploring what could come next.
“We never get to make those decisions, but creatively I’m always thinking a little bit outside of what the lines are,” Boylan said during the interview with ScreenRant.
She also revealed that she is a big fan of the Avatar novels, especially those centered on Avatar Kyoshi and Avatar Yangchen. Boylan said she also read the first Roku novel before filming Season 2, and those books inspired ideas that she has been keeping in reserve.
“I have [season 4 ideas] in my back pocket,” she said.

Boylan explained that she enjoys thinking about what happens after the original story ends. While Aang defeats the Fire Nation in the animated series, the characters still have long lives ahead of them, leaving plenty of room for new adventures.
“I love the idea of what happens after the war is won, and all of these kids’ lives go on after the show is over. It’s not the end,” she said before joking that viewers should ask Netflix if they want Season 4 to become a reality.
Raisani shared a similar view. He confirmed that conversations about future stories happen regularly among the creative team, even while they continue working on Season 3.
“We talk a lot about” Season 4 ideas, Raisani said, while Boylan added that the team even spends time discussing which actors could play future characters if the story ever continues.
Although the original Avatar: The Last Airbender ended after three seasons in 2008, the franchise itself has continued to grow. Several novels have explored the lives of previous Avatars, including Kyoshi, Yangchen, and Roku, while comic books have expanded the stories of Aang and his friends after the animated finale. There are also many stories set before The Legend of Korra, leaving decades of unexplored material.
Because of that, there is still plenty of content that Netflix could adapt if it chooses to continue the live-action series. The streamer has also expanded other successful franchises beyond their original plans, including One Piece and Stranger Things, showing that popular shows can continue in different forms when audience demand remains high.
For now, Netflix has only confirmed Avatar: The Last Airbender through Season 3. However, based on the comments from Boylan and Raisani, it is clear the creative team is already prepared if the opportunity to tell more stories ever arrives.
