‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Has Reportedly Held Three Test Screenings, Here’s Everything We Know So Far

Marvel Studios has kept an unusually tight lid on ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ details considering the sheer scale of the project, but that hasn’t stopped a steady trickle of test-screening reports from building anticipation for months. With Robert Downey Jr. trading his old Iron Man suit for the villainous Doctor Doom, fans have been hungry for any sign that the gamble is paying off.

That hunger has been fed repeatedly since early spring, when the first reports of an internal test screening surfaced. According to those early claims, Marvel held a private screening of a pre-reshoots cut for select staff, including studio president Kevin Feige, with insiders saying attendees “were very pleased with it,” and some even calling it the Russo Brothers’ best Marvel movie yet.

Now, prolific industry leaker Daniel Richtman has added another data point to that growing pile of buzz, stating on X that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has held three test screenings so far, with reactions described simply as “good.” While Richtman’s comment is light on specifics, it confirms Marvel has continued refining the film through multiple rounds of audience feedback well into the fall.

The April screening reports set a high bar early on, with some attendees claiming the film tested at a similar level to ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ a notable benchmark given that film’s critical and commercial success. That early praise came at a moment when the MCU badly needed a win, following underwhelming box office results for both ‘Thunderbolts*’ and ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’

Later reports pushed that narrative even further, with one industry scooper claiming the film’s internal test scores had actually surpassed ‘Avengers: Endgame’ itself. That same report indicated the film’s runtime had settled around 2 hours and 45 minutes, a meaningful trim from earlier drafts that reportedly ran as long as 3 hours and 30 minutes before settling closer to 2 hours and 50 minutes.

The most recent test screening also reportedly included a newly shot post-credits scene, filmed just a little over three months before the film’s release and screened in an unfinished state alongside the rest of the cut. That detail suggests Marvel is still actively shaping the film’s final moments even this close to release, a common practice for major tentpoles but one that underscores just how much last-minute work goes into a project of this scale.

The film’s marketing rollout has continued in parallel with these screening reports, with ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ now playing in theaters carrying two separate ‘Doomsday’ preview looks, one of which is locked exclusively to IMAX and Infinity Vision screens. When ‘Doomsday’ itself arrives on December 18, it will screen in Infinity Vision domestically and in IMAX specifically in China.

With a cast this massive, spanning the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and an entirely separate universe’s X-Men, Marvel has enormous incentive to keep test-screening chatter positive as December approaches. None of these reports come with official confirmation from the studio, so they should be treated as unverified insider buzz rather than guaranteed quality signals.

Still, the consistency of the reports, stretching from an early spring screening all the way through this latest round in September, paints a picture of a studio that has remained confident in the film through multiple stages of refinement.
