‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Has Secret Characters, Alan Cumming Teases New Details
Alan Cumming says Marvel Studios’ upcoming Avengers: Doomsday still has characters that have not been revealed yet, adding more mystery to an already massive superhero lineup.
In an interview with Deadline, Cumming explained that the production used fake or hidden names for certain roles to avoid spoilers. He said this made things confusing while filming, especially with so many characters involved.
“Sometimes there were secret names because they didn’t want to reveal that a certain character was returning, so they called them something else in the script. It was so confusing,” he said in the interview with Deadline.
He also described the film as something extremely packed with superheroes, saying it felt overwhelming at times. According to him, the scale of the project makes it hard to keep track of everything happening in it.
He referred to the movie as “superhero soup,” adding, “there’s so many of them in it. I just can’t keep up.” Even so, Cumming said his experience on set was very positive and a major improvement compared to his earlier work on X2, which he described as a “very, very wrong” working environment.
Avengers: Doomsday already includes a huge list of confirmed characters. These include the Fantastic Four team, members of the Thunderbolts, several X-Men characters from earlier films, and key figures from Black Panther. Returning heroes from the core Avengers lineup are also expected, including Thor, Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson as Captain America, and Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
However, there are still many major characters who have not officially been confirmed. Names being speculated include Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, and Halle Berry’s Storm, among others.
The film’s growing buzz comes alongside comments from Robert Downey Jr., who recently spoke out against the idea that influencers will become the next generation of movie stars. Speaking on the Conversations for our Daughters podcast, he dismissed the idea strongly.
“When I hear people talk about, ‘Oh, the stars of the future are going to be influencers,’ I go, ‘I don’t know what world you’re living in, but I think that that is absolute horses—,” Downey Jr. said.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled to release in cinemas on December 18.
