‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Presales Smash a Major Ticket Milestone
Marvel’s biggest crossover events have always been global phenomena, and few markets embrace them quite like Brazil. Long before opening night, fans there turn ticket buying into a competitive sport, and that tradition is back in full force for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
The history is worth remembering. When ‘Avengers: Endgame’ went on sale in 2019, Brazil’s biggest ticketing app recorded the largest sales day in the company’s history, and the first hour alone beat the entire first day of presales for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. Now the Russo brothers’ return to the franchise is following the same script, with the film opening in Brazil on December 17 under the Portuguese title ‘Vingadores: Doutor Destino’.
The latest figure is a big one. According to data from SEATmio reported by Legião dos Heróis, ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ has an estimated 1.05 million tickets sold in Brazil across the 584 Brazilian cinemas the platform tracks. That arrives a little over six weeks before the film’s release.
It is important to read the number carefully. It is an estimate from a ticketing data platform, not a studio announcement, and it covers only the theaters SEATmio monitors. Disney has not published a Brazilian ticket total.
The same data puts Brazil in third place among the 84 countries it includes. The United States leads with 3.21 million tickets, followed by Mexico with 1.21 million. Across all monitored markets, SEATmio counts 9.61 million tickets sold in 8,071 cinemas.
That ranking says something about where the film’s earliest demand is coming from. In this data, Brazil and Mexico are the two strongest markets outside the United States, and both are already past the million-ticket mark.
Brazil was already a headline market for the film. Global Box Office reported that ‘Doomsday’ became the fastest film to pass $1 million in presales in both Brazil and the United Kingdom. That record was measured in dollars, so the new million-ticket figure marks a separate and much larger milestone.
Other markets have posted notable numbers too. Disney said the film sold 118,000 tickets in its first 24 hours in Germany, beating the 105,000 sold by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in the same window. Global Box Office also reported that worldwide presales passed $100 million on October 6, and later reports placed the total around $125 million, though those global figures come from a third-party tracker and were not independently confirmed by Disney.
The domestic picture is just as strong. Disney’s chief financial officer confirmed in September that the film had passed $50 million in domestic advance sales, and Global Box Office later reported more than $65 million with about 50 days to go. More than 70% of early sales were tied to Disney’s new Infinity Vision premium format, which went on sale first on July 20.
The first day of premium-format sales alone brought in $16.5 million from about 1,000 theaters, which Variety noted was roughly twice the first-day figure for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’. For context, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ had an estimated $140 million in presales, a mark ‘Doomsday’ now appears to be chasing, while ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ reportedly reached $150 million in advance sales by the day before its opening.
Tracking has projected a domestic opening between $260 million and $300 million. That would sit below the $357.1 million debut of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and the $360 million record set by ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, but it would still rank among the biggest openings ever. The film also opens the same weekend as ‘Dune: Part Three’, a pairing fans have nicknamed “Dunesday.”

Brazil’s ticket rush has not been smooth. When presales opened on September 28, fans reported websites and apps failing as thousands tried to buy at once. Infinity Vision theaters went first, and Disney confirmed that ‘Doomsday’ and the ‘Endgame’ re-release would be the first films to receive that seal in Brazil.
The film opens in Brazil a day ahead of its December 18 release in the United States, and some Brazilian chains have scheduled early screenings for December 16.
Presales are not box office, and strong demand does not guarantee a record run. Reviews, word of mouth and competition will all shape the final result, and the real numbers will not be known until opening weekend.
Do you think Avengers: Doomsday will break box office records thanks to its massive presales?
