Avengers: Doomsday is still months away from hitting theaters, but Marvel is already giving fans another reason to get excited. A new report suggests the upcoming crossover film will have one of the longest runtimes in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, giving the massive cast plenty of time to share the screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Avengers: Doomsday will run for 165 minutes, or two hours and 45 minutes. If that number stays the same when the movie is released, it will become the second-longest MCU film ever made. Only Avengers: Endgame, which had a runtime of 181 minutes, is longer.

Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed the runtime. However, The Hollywood Reporter says it verified the information through its own sources. The publication also reported that Disney is preparing to begin ticket sales for select Infinity Vision theaters on July 20. Because some theaters need scheduling information well in advance, Disney reportedly had to provide details such as the film’s length.

The reported runtime also means Avengers: Doomsday will be longer than Avengers: Infinity War, which ran for 149 minutes. While nearly three hours may seem like a lot for a superhero movie, Marvel fans have already shown they are willing to sit through longer films if the story delivers. Endgame became one of the biggest box office hits of all time despite its three-hour length.

The longer runtime could also be necessary because Avengers: Doomsday is expected to bring together one of the largest casts in MCU history. The film will feature returning Avengers while also introducing major characters from other Marvel franchises into the main cinematic universe. The Fantastic Four are expected to play a key role, and the X-Men are also set to become part of the story.

Doctor Doom will serve as the main villain, replacing Kang as the central threat to the MCU’s next saga. With so many heroes, teams, and storylines coming together, a longer movie should give each character more room to develop instead of rushing through important moments.

Fans are also expecting the movie to include the classic Marvel formula of heroes clashing before eventually joining forces against a common enemy. Different groups are likely to split off on separate missions, with Sam Wilson’s Avengers, the New Avengers, Wakanda, Namor, and several other heroes all playing important parts in the battle against the multiverse crisis known as the incursions.

Trying to tell a story on that scale in a standard two-hour movie would be difficult. A runtime of 165 minutes could give the film enough space to balance its action, emotional moments, and character interactions without feeling overcrowded.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18. Even though Marvel has not released a full trailer yet, updates about the movie continue to build excitement as production moves forward.

Do you think a 2-hour, 45-minute runtime is the right length for Avengers: Doomsday?

If the reported runtime is accurate, it may also offer a hint about what comes next. Avengers: Secret Wars, which will continue the story, could end up being even longer than Endgame if Marvel decides the finale needs even more time to wrap up the Multiverse Saga. For now, fans can look forward to what appears to be one of the biggest and longest Marvel movies ever made.
