‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Star Tom Hiddleston Reveals What It’s Really Like to Play the MCU’s God of Mischief
Tom Hiddleston has played Loki for many years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the interview, he talks about how deeply the character is now tied to his life and identity.
He explains that returning to Loki again and again has shaped him in ways he did not expect when he first started the role.
He said, “He’s a part of me now. He’s my other self. It’s very difficult to imagine my life without Loki, and I’m so grateful that I was given the opportunity to play a character of such depth, dimension, soul, complexity and playfulness.”
He also spoke about how the role has changed over time. Loki has gone from a villain to a more complex figure with growth and change across many films and series. Hiddleston describes the process of returning to the character as something ongoing and personal. He said, “And to come back again and again, and pour myself into him, and learn from him and teach him — it’s extraordinary.”
He adds that the connection between actor and character is no longer simple ownership. In his words, “The association with him is so deep… Loki doesn’t belong to me. It belongs to you. It belongs to all of us. I love him.” This reflects how the character has become part of a larger audience experience, not just a role in one actor’s career.
At the same time, Marvel Studios is preparing for one of its biggest crossover films yet. Avengers: Doomsday is planned as a major chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, bringing together characters from different timelines and universes. The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. It continues the multiverse storyline that has been building across recent Marvel projects.
The story brings together many groups at once. The Avengers, Wakandans, and New Avengers from Earth-616 join forces with the Fantastic Four from Earth-828 and the X-Men from another universe. All of them are forced to face a major threat: Doctor Doom, who is played by Robert Downey Jr. in a major shift for the franchise. The film is designed as a large-scale crossover event where different worlds collide.
Production details from Marvel Studios describe a long development process. The project was reshaped after earlier plans for other Avengers films changed. The Kang storyline was adjusted, and the creative direction moved toward a new central villain and new structure for the saga. This led to the current version of Doomsday, which focuses on Doctor Doom and the idea of multiple universes coming together.
Filming took place in 2025 at Pinewood Studios in England, with additional location shoots in England and Bahrain. The film is now set for release in December 2026, followed by its sequel Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
