‘Pluribus’ Is Finally Back in the Desert, and Vince Gilligan Is Taking His Sweet Time
Some TV hits come back fast. Others make fans sit through a long, quiet stretch while the creator gets everything exactly right. ‘Pluribus‘ has firmly been the second kind of show.
Apple TV ordered a pair of seasons before the first one ever aired. Even so, fans who loved Carol Sturka’s lonely war against a world of blissed-out strangers have spent months hearing little more than calls for patience.
That wait now has a real marker. ‘Pluribus’ Season 2 has started filming, with production mapped out for an intensive 225-day shoot.
Cameras began rolling on Oct 31 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a fittingly spooky start date for a show about a world that has lost itself. The location is a homecoming of sorts. Creator Vince Gilligan also shot ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’ in the city.
The production is also reportedly settling in for the long haul. Albuquerque has extended a permit for the West Side neighborhood where Carol lives, which would allow filming there until summer 2028.
A 225-day schedule is a lot of time to spend on one season of television. Counting forward from the start date, it points to a wrap sometime around mid-2027, if the plan holds.
The gap between seasons was no accident. Gilligan had said the writing process would take time, and in September he admitted the new season was not technically all written yet. By late summer he had also warned that complicated scripts, sprawling locations and heavy visual effects would push the show’s return further out.
Gilligan won his first individual Emmy on Sep 14 for writing the ‘Pluribus’ episode “We Is Us.” Around then he gave a clearer timeline, saying the cast would soon get the first 2 scripts and that production would begin in the fall.
Rhea Seehorn, who plays Carol, confirmed the schedule on Oct 19. She said at an Academy Museum event that she would be leaving shortly to start Season 2. She has also teased that the opening script is wild stuff.

For comparison, the first season reportedly filmed from February to September 2024. It then reached screens in November 2025, after a long post-production period. If Season 2 follows a similar pattern, shooting should run through the first half of 2027.
That points to a long road ahead for viewers. Apple has not locked in a release window, and Gilligan’s own comments suggest the post-production work will be heavy. Fans hoping for a quick turnaround may need to adjust their expectations.
It is worth remembering what is at stake. The first season became the most successful drama launch in Apple TV history. It also earned Seehorn and Gilligan major awards attention.

The show’s slow, deliberate approach is a big part of why it landed. ‘Pluribus’ follows novelist Carol Sturka as she tries to hold onto her identity while a hive-minded world works to bring her into the fold. Its mix of dark humor, dread and character study has made it a conversation starter.
Seehorn leads a returning cast that, as far as official announcements go, has not been fully confirmed. Karolina Wydra, Carlos Manuel Vesga, Samba Schutte and Menik Gooneratne are all expected to feature, though Apple has yet to formally announce who is coming back.
Gilligan has previously said he has a longer plan for the story. He has also made clear that how long it continues depends on Seehorn wanting to keep telling Carol’s story.
For now, the news is simple. Cameras are rolling, the desert is hot and the longest shoot in the show’s short history is underway.
How long are you willing to wait for Pluribus Season 2?
