‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Will Reportedly Feature at Least One Spider-Man – Here’s What We Know
Marvel fans may still have to wait a little longer to see Tom Holland’s Spider-Man return alongside the Avengers. According to recent reports, Avengers: Doomsday could feature a different version of Peter Parker instead, with Tobey Maguire reportedly set to make another appearance as the wall-crawler.
Holland’s Spider-Man has been a major part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2016. His latest movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, brought his story to a huge turning point by bringing together three live-action Spider-Men. Holland, Maguire, and Andrew Garfield shared the screen as their versions of Peter Parker fought villains from across the Multiverse.
Now, the Multiverse is heading toward an even bigger crisis in Avengers: Doomsday. The movie is expected to deal with Incursions, events where different universes collide and can destroy one another.
Marvel Studios has already shown the first teaser for Doomsday, but Holland’s Spider-Man was nowhere to be seen. That may not mean Spider-Man is missing from the movie completely.
According to reports cited by the original article, Tobey Maguire is heavily rumored to return as his version of Peter Parker. If true, this would be his fifth appearance as the character after Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and his return in No Way Home.
Some of the biggest rumors go even further. Reports claim that Doomsday could open with an Incursion involving Maguire’s universe and the universe connected to the X-Men films from Fox. That could put Maguire’s Spider-Man in a battle with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine while their realities fall apart.
There have also been rumors that Alfred Molina could return as Doctor Octopus. His character was one of the villains Peter helped in No Way Home, so bringing him back as a possible ally would give the story another connection to Maguire’s Spider-Man movies.
Holland himself recently spoke about the next Avengers films in an interview with Cinemania. The actor said he has not yet joined production and admitted that Marvel is keeping details away from him because of his reputation for revealing spoilers.
“I don’t know a lot about those movies, I think by design… I have a reputation for spoiling certain things, and I think the studios are keeping me from the juicy details. But when I do get to grace that set, I’m so curious — you know, what does that mean for Peter? And how does that work? I’m very excited about… whatever it is they’re doing.”
His comments suggest that Holland may not have a role in Doomsday, at least not one that required him to film during the movie’s main production period.
The reason could simply be timing. Holland was busy working on The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day while Doomsday was filming. That would have made a major role difficult to schedule.
Still, Holland’s absence may only be temporary. Reports suggest that both Holland and Maguire could have major roles in Avengers: Secret Wars, which is expected to arrive in 2027.
Which Spider-Man do you want to see in Avengers: Doomsday?
If that happens, Marvel could be saving Holland’s Spider-Man for the bigger Multiverse story. And with Maguire potentially appearing in Doomsday, fans may finally get another major chapter in his Spider-Man story before the two Peters join forces again.
There is also one more possibility that would send fans into a frenzy: Andrew Garfield returning alongside them. Nothing confirms that yet, but after No Way Home proved that all three Spider-Men can share the screen, the door is certainly open for another reunion.
