‘Avengers: Doomsday’s New Latverian Witch Costume Has Fans Convinced Scarlet Witch Will Appear in the Movie

San Diego Comic-Con is always a lot for Marvel fans to process, but this year’s Hall H programming carried a different kind of energy, the kind usually reserved for an event rather than a sequel. ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ is already being treated as the biggest movie coming from any studio this year, led by Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom and featuring dozens of major names pulled from across the MCU and past Marvel films.

Costume displays and prop cases have quietly become their own kind of teaser trailer, and Marvel’s booth this weekend leaned into that fully. Alongside a giant Sentinel head photo opportunity, the exhibit featured a section themed to Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters and merchandise tied to the film’s massive X-Men presence.

Buried among all that noise was one mannequin that stopped people cold. Marvel Studios exhibited a new outfit for a character labeled the ‘Latverian Witch,’ giving convention attendees their first glimpse at someone never before seen on screen. The design featured green robes flowing shoulder to floor, fastened with metallic clasps, a hooded cloak partially obscuring a silver face mask, and a green belt with a silver diamond buckle whose meaning has not been explained.

The internet did what the internet does, and comparisons started flying within hours. Fan accounts began circulating side by side images pairing the new costume with a classic green cloaked sorceress from Marvel’s comics and a photo of Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, framing it as a case of hiding in plain sight rather than introducing someone new. Exclusive photography showed the character posed in front of a green stained glass window, robes echoing Doctor Doom’s own visual language almost exactly.

The comparison lands because Olsen has stayed absent from the MCU since Wanda’s apparent death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and a growing chorus of theorists now argues the Latverian Witch represents her return, not as the Sokovian born Avenger but as a variant recruited directly by Doom, her heritage swapped for Latverian roots. It also helps that Doom’s own mythology already has a witch built into his backstory.

In the comics, Victor von Doom was born in a Romani camp as the son of a witch named Cynthia, who died after making a deal with the demon Mephisto. Cynthia von Doom’s spellcraft and ties to demonic bargains have made her one of the character’s defining tragedies for decades.

Marvel added fuel of its own. The studio also unveiled a Doctor Doom action figure fitted with red energy attachments, a color long associated with Wanda’s chaos magic. Other rumors point somewhere else entirely, claiming Doom will be reimagined as a family man in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ with the Latverian Witch positioned as his wife rather than an ally, her early death potentially serving as the emotional catalyst behind his multiversal rampage.

Nothing here is confirmed, and that ambiguity is clearly the point of a Comic-Con reveal like this one. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026, leaving plenty of time for fans to pick the costume apart pixel by pixel. Do you think the Latverian Witch is Wanda in disguise, or is Marvel building someone new entirely, drop your theory in the comments.
